Liam Neeson will never forget the beautiful times he had with his late wife. The Northern Ireland-born actor briefly dated Brooke Shields before meeting his wife, actress Natasha Richardson.
The two met in 1993 while working on the Broadway play Anna Christie, and they quickly fell in love, much like Mirren.
The couple’s narrative began in 1993, when they starred opposite each other in Anna Christie on Broadway.
“I’d never had that kind of explosive chemistry situation with an actor or actress,” he informed me. “Every night, we had this lovely, dance-free dance on stage.” She and I were like [Fred] Astaire and Ginger Rogers.”
Natasha, then 29, was married to producer Robert Fox. However, that wasn’t enough to prevent her and Liam from falling in love. Her marriage was failing, and she fell deeply in love with Liam.
Everyone present was aware of their chemistry. Fortunately for Liam, who was 40 at the time, Natasha’s marriage to Robert was already ending.
When Natasha turned 30, Liam decided to send her a card from the set of Schindler’s List.
“You are catching up with me.” Much love, Oskar.” Liam portrayed Oskar Schindler in the film.
However, Natasha did not find the message as romantic as planned. Instead, she felt it was time to be open.
She reacted, adding, “This is like a letter from a friend. “What is our relationship?”
Liam Neeson and the late Natalie Richardson’s sons have all grown up. The iconic “red coat girl” from ‘Schindler’s List’ has grown up and is now helping Ukrainian migrants.
Liam knew right away that he had fallen in love with her.
“That was when I knew I loved this person,” he told me.
“I realized that this is a genuine and real entity that requires protection.”
Shortly later, in the summer of 1994, the couple married on a farm in upstate New York.
In 2018, the 63-year-old Taken actor joined SiriusXM’s My Favorite Song with John Benjamin Hickey, where he shared a heartwarming memory from his 1994 wedding to Richardson.
Neeson said that the wedding music was Van Morrison’s “Crazy Love.”
They have two boys together: Michael was born in 1995, followed by Daniel in 1996.
Natasha died tragically in 2009, aged 45, as a result of a skiing accident in Quebec.
Natasha was receiving private skiing lessons at the Mont Tremblant resort when she fell on a novice slope. Richardson slipped and suffered a head injury while skiing near Montreal. She wasn’t wearing a helmet.
Initially, no one, even Richardson, believed it was terrible.
The actress felt fine and, against her instructor’s wishes, opted to continue with her skiing session. After a while, the teacher called a ski patrol and requested medical aid and an ambulance. Natalie declined.
On the other hand, Natalie and the ski instructor returned to her magnificent Hotel Quintessence room and performed routine checks to ensure her well-being.
Later, it was discovered that the paramedics who entered the room were sent away. They repeated their recommendation that she consult a doctor.
Mrs. Richardson didn’t feel well about an hour after the event. An ambulance took Mrs. Richardson to the Centre Hospitalier Laurentien in Ste-Agathe before moving her to the Hôpital du Sacre-Coeur.”
She had experienced severe damage, and the accident had left her brain “squashed up against the side of her skull.”
“They told me she was brain dead,” Neeson recounted. “She was on life support and so on.”” I went in and told her that I loved her. ” I told her, ‘Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this. You’ve hit your head. I’m not sure if you can hear me, but this is what happened.
Finally, Neeson realized he needed to withdraw her from life support. On 60 Minutes, he said that the two had “made a pact” that if any of them entered a “vegetative state,” they would “pull the plug.”
Natasha died on March 18, 2009. Finding out her wife’s organ donor status, on the other hand, provided Neeson with some solace. Neeson stated that others in need received her heart, liver, and kidneys.
Liam remained silent for five years after her untimely death before opening up in a 2014 broadcast of 60 Minutes.
“I went into her, and I told her I loved her.”
He went on to tell Anderson Cooper that he had underestimated the gravity of Natasha’s injury.
Liam remembered arriving at the hospital. “She was on life support,” he explained.
At the hospital, Liam saw Natasha’s X-rays.
Doctors informed him that his wife was still alive, but in a vegetative state. The medical doctors said she would never recover.
“I’ve tumbled about in the snow.”
” I talked to her, and she replied, “Oh, sweetheart. I tumbled in the snow.
“That’s the way she described it.”
It is terrible to hear him narrate their last moments together.
“I went in to tell her I loved her. I said, ‘Sweetie, you’re not coming back from this. You’ve hit your head. I’m not sure if you can hear me, but here’s what happened. And we’re taking you back to New York.” All of your family and friends will attend,” he added.
And five years later, Liam was still trying to cope with his loss.
In an interview with Loaded magazine, he stated, “Her death was never real.” It still sort of isn’t.”
Looking back on their marriage, one of Liam’s favorite qualities about Natasha was her giving and contagious maternal affection.
“She cared for everybody,” he stated. “She has motherly instincts. And she’d prepare dinners for everyone and simply look after us all.”
The pair had agreed to be organ donors, and Liam fulfilled that vow following Natasha’s death.
Natasha brought life to three individuals with her death, but she also left three family members whose lives would never be the same again.
“Life is very short.”
Every year, when their wedding anniversary arrives, Liam remembers the love they had.
In 2016, Liam sent a message to supporters on social media in memory of his late wife. He advised people to cherish their relationships and enjoy every day together.
“We must pause and be grateful for our marriages. Because life is quite brief. Spend time with your partner. Please treat them nicely. One day, they won’t be present when you look up from your phone.
Live and love (each day) as if it were your last. Because one day it will be. Take chances and experience life. Tell your loved ones that you love them every day.
Liam could not emphasize enough how important it is to seize every opportunity. “Life is worth living,” he stated.
