Isabelle Knowlton, who has special needs, was delighted to attend prom but was devastated when her date was canceled at the last minute.
Isabelle, who has Angelman Syndrome, is mainly nonverbal and uses a wheelchair to go about, but her mother, Syndi, refuses to let her daughter miss out.
Syndi, who shared her daughter’s anguish, made a social media request for someone to accompany Isabelle, then 16, to prom.
And then Prince Charming came to Isabelle’s rescue, giving her the fairy tale ending she deserves.
In 2021, Trina Preece of Utah was surfing on Facebook when she came across a message that touched her heart.
With a community group, Syndi Knowlton shared the message, which featured a photo of Isabelle Knowlton. It read: “My darling daughter Isabelle is 16 and wheelchair-bound. We’ve been talking about prom, and her date can’t go right now.” Are there any young males who would like to attend this beautiful girl’s special needs prom?”
Isabelle, sometimes known as Izzie, has a genetic disease called Angelman syndrome. Angelman syndrome, according to the Mayo Clinic, “causes delayed development, problems with speech and balance, intellectual disability, and, sometimes, seizures.”
Isabelle is unable to walk, and while she cannot speak, she communicates herself via smiles and laughter, which contributes to her charming and warm demeanor.
Isabelle’s date had been ill and could not attend her, leaving her distraught.
Trina fought to fight back emotions after reading Syndi’s impassioned appeal.
Carson Preece, her son, entered the room and, seeing his mother weeping, asked what was wrong.
“THIS BOY! Carson walked in a few weeks ago, saw me crying, and asked what was wrong. I read him a Facebook post about a mother of a 16-year-old girl with special needs asking for a date to her daughter’s school prom.
Meanwhile, at the Knowlton house, Syndi was accepting requests from many young men to accompany Isabelle to prom. The devoted mother then updated her post, which has since been removed, to say, “I am overwhelmed and in tears with the love being shared with my cutie.”
Isabelle picked Carson above the other males to be her date.
Carson arrived at Isabelle’s doorway the day before prom, determined to make her feel especially special, and adorned the girl’s bedroom with pink, purple, and white balloons.
Carson dressed in a blue suit, a white shirt, and a pink tie to match Isabelle’s light pink outfit for the big day. The adorable pair earned Isabelle the title of Prom Dutchess.
But it did not end there. Carson, a wonderful gentleman, visited Isabelle at her house and spent more than an hour watching cartoons together.
“SO TENDER, this boy!” Trina brags.
Trina and Syndi were watching over the young couple as they enjoyed their evening.
Trina describes Izzie as “a darling girl, nonverbal, wheelchair-bound, on a feeding tube, and mostly uncommunicative.” However, as her eyes met Carson’s, she lit up like the Fourth of July. “And so he did!” She said, “We are all far more similar than we will ever be different.” In a world full of options, choose kindness.”
The tweet went viral, receiving over 160,000 likes from netizens who praised Carson and Trina.
One writes, “You raised an incredible human being. Thank you for your lovely sharing…”And reminding us of humanity’s goodness!” A second observer remarks, “What a special boy to be so kind to this beautiful girl.”
A third person adds, “Thank you, Carson, from the heart of every parent or loved one of a child. Despite the limitations, we will always remember the love you showed.
Trina ended her post with, “Just a story about a boy I am blessed to call son!'” “He inspires me to be better and do better!”
Carson Preece inspires everyone to strive for excellence and achieve greater success! Carson Preece is a fantastic young man, and his mother, Trina, has every right to be proud of her gorgeous kid!
And Syndi is such a wonderful mother to assist her beautiful daughter! We hope Isabelle had a wonderful prom and shared some memories with Carson that she will cherish forever!
