“America’s Got Talent” often asserts that a mere two or three minutes can significantly impact your life.
Chapel Hart’s audition on Tuesday’s program impressed judges Simon Cowell, Sofia Vergara, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, and presenter Terry Crews.
After hitting the stage, the Mississippi trio, consisting of two sisters and a cousin, stated that they aim to restore girl groups’ dominance in mainstream culture.
As a tribute to their musical inspiration, Dolly Parton, they sang an original song. The song, “You Can Have Him, Jolene,” was a follow-up to Parton’s 1974 hit “Jolene.”
The trio got the audience moving and dancing. By the end of the song, the audience was shouting, “Golden Buzzer.”
Even Cowell, a typically harsh critic, smiled after seeing their wild performance. “Trust me, I needed you today,” he said. “It was great. “I love you.”
Chapel Hart talked about their difficulties in making a name for themselves in country music.
The country music trio Chapel Hart honored their musical hero, Dolly Parton, with an original song. The song, “You Can Have Him, Jolene,” was a follow-up to Parton’s 1974 hit “Jolene.”
“We’ve been trying to break into Nashville for the last couple of years, but it’s been kind of hard,” a member said. “Country music doesn’t always look like us.”
Klum remarked the trio’s excitement “is infectious,” while Vergara felt the act “was perfect.”
“You guys look like you’ve been doing this for a long time, and I’m so proud of you guys.” Vergara said, fighting back tears.
Cowell and Klum joked that if they hadn’t already used their Golden Buzzers, Chapel Hart would have certainly deserved them.
However, on “AGT,” regulations can be flexible.
The judges separated into a huddle, joined by host Crews. After that, on Cowell’s count of five, they all hit the Golden Buzzer at the same time, sending Chapel Hart straight to the live shows.
Parton also complimented the musicians after seeing them remake her iconic tune.
“What a fun new take on my song, @ChapelHartBand,” the country singer tweeted Wednesday.
What a fun new take on my song, @ChapelHartBand! Carl's birthday is today so I think I'll hang on to him, and I'm not notifying Jolene that today is
his birthday 😉 #AGT https://t.co/UFiT1AH84R— Dolly Parton (@DollyParton) July 20, 2022
