Amal Clooney would do anything to protect her family’s privacy.
In an interview with Charlotte Tilbury for Glamour, the activist, 47, discussed her relationship with husband George Clooney, her private family life, and setting boundaries. Amal, who has 8-year-old twins Ella and Alexander with the Oscar-winning actor, 64, claimed that when guests come to her house, she takes away their phones to provide a secure environment for intimate times.
“Creating private moments and spaces is getting more challenging. But that’s also why we entertain frequently at home,” she told the newspaper. “I now have a phone basket that I use to take everyone’s phones away!”
“It’s important to get that balance where you have time alone with your family and with your friends, where people feel like you can have a safe and frank exchange,” according to her. “I would argue that having a parent makes you more sensitive to some of the intrusions. So we try our utmost to minimize the influence on our children. We don’t put our children’s photos out there, and we never have.”
Following their Italian wedding in 2014, George and Amal welcomed twins Alexander and Ella in June of 2017. The Clooneys choose professional ventures with care to ensure that their children come first.
“In marriage, and now with the kids, you give away the selfishness of only looking out for yourself,” George told the magazine PEOPLE. “What a fantastic thing. Amal and I discuss it every day. “We feel extremely fortunate.”
George may be an A-list celebrity, but he is not immune to the challenges of parenthood. For now, the actor admits that when his twins misbehave, he seeks assistance from the cheery man in the large red suit.
“They’re still all into the Santa thing, which is very helpful because when my kids are acting poorly, let’s say in July, I get a call from Santa,” he told PEOPLE in December 2023, adding that he cast a “friend” as the fake persona. “I actually have a buddy whose [caller ID] comes up: ‘Santa.'”
Despite keeping their family life fairly quiet, George can’t stop raving about his children. The star of Ticket to Paradise gave a touching update on raising the twins at the 2025 Tony Awards.
“They want to see Taylor Swift,” the actor told E! News. “The funny aspect is that they have no concept of allusions. Robert DeNiro will arrive at the home, and they will ask, ‘Who’s that?’ They do not care.”
He then stated that, despite their lack of familiarity with cinema classics, Ella and Alexander are huge fans of Wicked. “They’re looking forward to the second part,” he told the media.
