1976
The sisters were unaware that Nixon was just bored, so they stood around and posed for the camera. They stood shoulder to shoulder while the photographer snapped shots of them. The images ended up being really excellent and professional, as you can see. Nixon, his sisters, and his wife appreciated the shot so much that they decided to use it every year for their family gathering. The same filters should be used, and they should be arranged in the same way. Essentially, the initial photograph was shot in 1974, but nothing came of it, so they didn’t begin recording it until 1975.

1978
Despite its simplicity, Nixon’s notion drew the attention of a number of notable artists and large cultural organizations. Nixon’s art gained significant notice after an exhibition of his work at the Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York. The show was titled “Nicholas Nixon: 40 Years of the Brown Sisters.” Although he began collecting photographs in 1974, he did not disclose any of them until 2014. 1980
In an interview, Nixon claimed that boredom was the inspiration for his photography. “On weekends, we used to go to Bebe’s parents’ house, which was getting old.” The required eating and conversing together. So I recommended we do something fresh and exciting, such as photography.” Heather was 23, Mimi was 15, Bebe was 25, and Laurie was 21 when they began shooting images, which was the ideal age to chronicle the aging process. Nicholas Nixon and his wife, Bebe, have two children. This was not a secret since she was his wife, but the other sisters’ lives were unknown. People were drawn to the sisters’ eyes and became intrigued by their lives and identities. Of course, this is understandable; it is natural human behavior. People became fascinated by the ladies, despite the fact that they did not know them, and some even saw a likeness to the Brown sisters.

I suppose one of the reasons everyone was so intrigued by the images was because the ladies didn’t alter much from year to year. The picture below, taken in 1986, is noteworthy because the Brown sisters are not solemn in this shot, instead staring right at the camera. They are smiling slightly in this shot, as if something humorous occurred or Nixon, the photographer, grinned at them. Viewers said it was a refreshing contrast from the photographs’ normal dismal tone.

1989
The most intriguing aspect of the images is, of course, seeing the women mature over the span of 40 years. You can notice how the garments alter in addition to the natural changes in the faces and complexion. You don’t think about it, but when it’s so obvious in a photograph, you notice it right away.

1994
The absence of make-up and style is, of course, a distinguishing feature of this undertaking. As a consequence, the images are as natural as possible. In their usual attire, the sisters moved along fairly naturally. They didn’t even put on makeup for the images. The images are more intriguing, of course, since they reveal bags under the eyes and crow’s feet. “We just wore whatever we felt like wearing on that particular day,” BeBe explains.

2000
Of course, the Brown sisters had a few requirements to meet before taking the photograph. The only requirement was that the shot be as clean, authentic, and natural as possible. The spectator doesn’t have to look hard to see this; all of the images have a tranquil serenity to them, and the ladies pose as they feel at the time and as they are: no “made” smiles or fancy apparel.

2010
Did you notice that Heather, Mimi, and BeBe often have the same facial expressions in photos? Whereas Laurie is often the one with a particular pose or expression. Over the years, you will notice a feeling of fear, sadness, and tension in her. But this year, it seems that she is happy with everything again. That is, of course, our opinion, and we hope she had a peaceful and happy life.

2014
For 40 years, the Brown sisters and Nixon have created stunning images. After 40 years, the sisters decided it was time to call it quits.
