As a result, we think we must raise awareness about a potential method employed by criminals to induce unwary drivers to leave their vehicles late at night.

You may be familiar with the ‘abandoned baby’ strategy, but we weren’t until we came across a widely shared post by a mother who wanted to warn as many people as possible.

Simply put, the mother in question was frantic to raise public awareness about the dangers of stopping to inspect what appeared to be an abandoned stroller on the side of the road.

Assume you’re driving down a dark road and see a stroller parked on a grassy side. In most cases, instinct takes control at this point, and you may slow down to take a closer look. In exceptional cases, the driver may exit the vehicle to confirm that everything is in order.

According to insiders, this is when local crooks may stage an ambush.

“Yes, people lie in wait,” a Facebook user commented on the post. “At best they rob you; at worst they bash you too.”

Scams like this, which play on the noble intentions of others, have unfortunately existed for much of human history, and they appear to be an effective means of enticing individuals into situations they would otherwise avoid.

Long and short, you should always be cautious, especially if you’re traveling at night in the middle of nowhere!
