A girl’s best friend is diamonds — and lingerie.

Irina Shayk demonstrated this on Monday at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival, when she was seen at the Hôtel Martinez wearing both as part of a skin-baring Gucci ensemble.

She wore a mesh bra and matching string pants with a monogram Gucci pattern, which were topped off with a mesh slip with diamonds hanging over her breast from the neckline.

The model also wore mesh gloves, knee-high stockings, crimson lipstick, and black sunglasses.

Shayk told CNN during the event that she and her outfit “have evolved” over the last decade.

“This is a new time with a new vision, and I wanted to use the moment and various outfits to have fun, be free, and express a different side of my personality and creativity,” she explained.

Shayk also mentioned that she no longer feels frightened on red carpets.

“I feel more comfortable in my own skin, and I wanted my wardrobe in Cannes to demonstrate that I can be a mom — a working mom — and still show up, be stylish, and express myself,” she explained.

Shayk’s debut participation in the film festival this year was a brilliant illustration of this. She donned a stunning Giorgio Armani Privé gown with navy-blue tulle and matching crystals, as well as strappy black shoes and diamond jewelry.

However, the appearance was also adventurous. The mesh gown was not just semi-sheer, but it also featured a plunging neckline and severely cut sleeves that exposed part of her chest.

“What is expected at Cannes is beautiful and elegant gowns, and I wanted to have a little bit of fun with that,” she said of her look to CNN.

She also had a noteworthy fashion moment on the “Firebrand” red carpet, sporting a Mowalola leather costume. The black-and-red two-piece included a crisscross bra and a low-rise skirt, both of which she accessorized with a Messika diamond necklace.

According to CNN, Shayk’s style was “very different” for her, but she wanted to “bring something new” to the red carpet.

“I want to see different types of fashion at Cannes,” she told the magazine. “I wanted to take a fresh, modern approach and ask myself, ‘What do the young generation want?'” ‘What does my 6-year-old daughter want to wear when she becomes 18?'”

And she is aware that her choice is controversial, calling her appearance on CNN “out there” and “strong.”

“I knew so many people would condemn it. “But I believe that in a couple of years, people will change their minds,” she said. “With fashion, you always have to violate a few rules. And when you go back in time and look at these things again, you frequently think, ‘That was absolutely fantastic.'”

But, at the end of the day, Shayk is comfortable in her own skin. Most importantly, she’s enjoying herself.

“The Cannes red carpet was the polar opposite of my daily life, and that’s one of the reasons I appreciate it so much,” she told CNN.
