Lynda Jean Cordova Carter, better known as just Lynda Carter, was born on July 24, 1951, in Phoenix, Arizona. Juana Córdova, her mother, was Mexican. Through her father, the actress also has English and Irish ancestors.

Carter was the eldest of three children. In her youth and adolescence, she studied classical dance and acting. She went to Arizona State University before dropping out to travel the country with her high school rock band.

Throughout her career, the actress and singer has been a member of several bands, including “Just Us” and “The Relatives.” Her most recent band was named “The Garfin Gathering with Lynda Carter.”

Carter is also a beauty pageant contestant, having won Miss World USA in 1972 before finishing in the top 15 in Miss World 1972. She moved into professional acting after a career in pageantry and music.

Carter has appeared in theater, movies, and television with great success. Her acting debut came as a guest star on TV series such as “Starsky and Hutch.”

However, the actress is most recognized for her role as Diana Prince in the live-action television series “Wonder Woman.” She is currently nominated for three Academy Awards.

Carter, who grew up reading “Wonder Woman” comic books, was ridiculed a lot at school because she was tall. Because of her height, she was dubbed Olive Oyl, like the Popeye character. Regardless, she did not give in to the bullies and went on to become a well-known actress.

The actress won her role in “Wonder Woman” at an opportune moment since she only had $25 in her bank account when she got the call. Carter beat out 2,000 other actresses for the part.

When she played Diana Prince, Carter, who still owns her “Wonder Woman” outfit, became a role model for many women. She admitted that “Wonder Woman” was more than just a cartoon character:

“She existed in the first place because, when she arrived on the scene, there was nothing for girls to look up to.” We are still waging the same battle. More female role models are still needed.”

According to the actress, “Wonder Woman” battle for truth, justice, and the secret self that dwells in all females. She went on to say that all women had the moral fiber and goodness that her character possessed.

The 71-year-old said that her successful series nearly didn’t make it to the air in 1975 because TV executives didn’t believe there was a demand for a female-led show.

Carter, on the other hand, disputed this and asserted that women typically watched TV shows with a male-dominated cast. She went on to say that the show’s approval was well worth it because it grew popular with all sexes:

“Wonder Woman’ taught women to be themselves. I’ve gotten messages from individuals telling me how much of an inspiration she was to them. She was both feminine and forceful. She aided the advancement of women’s independence.”

Carter’s TV persona was so memorable that she inspired country musician Steve Wariner’s 1987 tune “Lynda.” The famous phrase from the song is, “You can be my ‘Wonder Woman,’ and I’ll just be your ‘Spider-Man.'”

The actress’s good nature was also on display when she brought the child of one of her stunt doubles, Jeannie Epper, to the scene. Even after he showed them a picture of Epper in a “Wonder Woman” outfit from the set, the boy’s classmates did not believe him when he stated that his mother was a stunt double for Carter. As a result, the students finally got to observe Epper in action.

Carter has also shown his support for the cast members of the “Wonder Woman” films. When “Wonder Woman” was launched in 2017, she backed Gal Gadot. She also praised Patty Jenkins as a skilled director and stated that the picture was fantastic.

Carter claims that the character “Wonder Woman” is considerably more than just her. She enjoys all new films, as well as all of the actors and actresses who have played Diana Prince, a figure who first appeared more than 75 years ago.

Carter went on when her stint on “Wonder Woman” ended in 1979 and began her family, which she cherishes.

“The Cleaner” actress remarked that, despite their ups and downs, theirs was a lovely love story. “…and I’d never in my life felt the love, support, and thrill of having a guy like this,” Carter added.

Unfortunately, their love story ended tragically. Altman died in February 2021 of myelofibrosis, a rare blood cancer. Carter is still coming to grips with her husband’s death. Altman and Carter were each other’s rock while they battled Carter’s alcoholism.

Many people were astonished when the actress disclosed that she was an alcoholic, as she was skilled at disguising it in public. She couldn’t, however, hide it from her husband or children. Altman requested that she refrain from drinking for the sake of their marriage and family.

Carter said that Altman’s plea inspired her to enter treatment, and she was 10 years clean by 2008. She was grateful to her spouse for always being there for her when she needed him. “I needed help; I begged God in heaven to help me figure this out,” she admitted.

The actress also stated that the rehabilitation process taught her that the best way to judge a person is how they treat people who love them.

Carter’s spouse was also by her side as she spoke up about her experience as the #MeToo movement exposed a slew of sexual abuse and harassment in Hollywood and beyond.

Carter admits to being a victim of an abuser who was being prosecuted at the time. She did not name the abuser or explain what happened, but she did say that her husband was there for her throughout.

Carter also stood by Altman when he was charged with fraud in the Bank of Credit and Commerce International affair in 1992. She told the press:

“To be honest, I know my spouse has done nothing. I know he’s a strong and bright man, a loving spouse, a good parent, and a fantastic friend, and we love one another and will move ahead.”

Altman was ultimately exonerated of all charges and spoke highly of his wife, who had stood with him. Carter’s counsel stated that he had strong views and a deep devotion to family and life. He described her as a person who is not scared to take risks in life.

Carter claimed she lost a key person with whom she had a tremendous love affair when Altman died because of their affection and close relationship. Altman, she added, would continue to exist in her as long as she was alive.

Carter also stated that Altman’s death was unexpected and surprising. Despite her efforts to cope with sadness, the actress admitted, “I probably cry three times a day.”

Months after her husband’s death, Altman returned to her first passion, music, to cope and respect her husband’s memory. She published “Human and Divine,” a song she penned as an homage to their long-lasting love. She stated about their relationship:

“It was a true romance.” I was really trying to describe love and loss and make sure it was about love’s humanity.”

Carter stated that the next chapter of her life will be devoted to the onerous process of discovering and understanding who she was without Altman. The couple had two children together, both of whom are now adults.

Carter and her husband have two children, a girl and a boy. On January 14, 1988, their son, James Altman, was born. James is a lawyer who attended George Washington University Law School, his father’s alma mater.

Jessica Altman, the couple’s daughter, was born on October 7, 1990, and is a carbon copy of her mother. Jessica received her law degree and an undergraduate degree in psychology from the University of Michigan.

Jessica got a position as an associate in the litigation section at Gibson, Dutch, and Crutcher, a legal firm in Washington, D.C., in 2020. In 2016, she also interned for former U.S. Congressman John D. Dingell, Jr.

Jessica, like her father, is a lawyer, although she has also worked in the entertainment world. The 32-year-old is as beautiful as her mother, but she not only looks like Carter, but she also sounds like her.

Jessica, like her mother, is a singer. At the age of 31, she released a single. In 2022, she released the EP “No Rules.”

Carter is currently preoccupied with her music. She rekindled her love of singing and produced a music video of her jazzy interpretation of Rickie Lee Jones’ iconic song “Danny’s All-Star Joint,” which was praised for having “a seriously flirty energy and sense of fun.” Jason Crain directed the project.
