Vergara has been extremely upfront about why she believes her seven-year marriage to Joe Manganiello will end in July 2023.
The divorce was one of the year’s most talked-about but surprising marital breakdowns, but it turns out the couple disagrees on why it happened.
In court records, they cited ‘irreconcilable disagreements’ as the cause of their breakup.
In an honest interview with the Spanish daily El País, she revealed what went wrong as she saw it.
Speaking about her personal life, the 51-year-old Colombian actress stated, “I am a newly divorced woman.
“My marriage ended due to my younger husband’s desire to have children, and I did not want to be an elderly mother. I believe it is unfair to the baby.”
Even though her ex-husband was just four years younger than her, she could see they had quite different goals.
She went on, “That’s not for me anymore.
“I had a child at 19, and I’m ready to embrace the role of a grandmother, not a mother.”
Sofia says she was strong and cheerful from the start, despite the challenges of separation, whether public or private.
She responded by saying, “Colombians go through so many terrible things, and we always know how to see the cheerful side of life because otherwise, we couldn’t live.”
However, Joe, her ex-boyfriend, expressed his dislike for portraying him as experiencing a midlife crisis.
In a candid interview with Men’s Journal, he explained why he believed the relationship had ended.
The American actor stated, “There’s been a lot of talk in the news about my wanting a family, which is just not true.
“We tried to start a family for the first year and a half.
“And we had a significant chat right away during our first month of dating.
I replied, ‘If you’ve finished with the kids, I understand.’ Simply notify me, and I will understand the situation, which is acceptable.
“But that was not the case with her.
“And I swore to her that I would never leave if it didn’t work out.” “But I did not.”
Joe expressed his dissatisfaction with the media’s portrayal of his persona.
“To be painted as if I had some sort of midlife crisis, and after nine years, turn to somebody and give them an ultimatum of, ‘Do this potentially unhealthy thing to your body, or else I’m gone'” was his response. “That was never who I was.”
When asked what he felt the cause of the marriage breakdown was, he stated that “two people grew apart, and that happens sometimes.”
