Pope Leo’s family tree is as startling as it is intriguing, and fans are going crazy over one superstar he is linked to.

Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost, born in Chicago, became the newest pope on May 8 and opted to be known as Pope Leo XIV in keeping with tradition.

Pope Leo, the 267th to take on the post, has already made ripples since succeeding Pope Francis, who died at the age of 88 in April.

In his first Sunday midday benediction (May 11), he said to the crowd below, “Never again war.”

He advocated for peace in Ukraine, a cease-fire in Gaza, and an accord between India and Pakistan.

He’s also been outspoken about US President Donald Trump and has been known to oppose several of his ideas.

In the past, he has retweeted tweets that are strongly opposed to Trump’s ideas.

For example, in 2018, Pope Leo retweeted a post by Cardinal Blase Cupich criticizing the Trump administration’s policies.

“There is nothing remotely Christian, American, or ethically justifiable about a program that separates children from their parents and confines them in cages. The thread’s initial post said, “This is being carried out in our name, and the shame is on us all.”

So, when this new information about Pope Leo was exposed, many were left wondering what else might come out next.

Henry Louis Gates Jr. has presented PBS’s Finding Your Roots for the last 13 years, and after fans pleaded with him to learn more about Pope Leo’s background, he gave in.

They traced his ancestors back to his 12th-great-grandparents, who were born in the early 1500s, with the help of American Ancestors and the Cuban Genealogy Club of Miami.

That’s when they discovered that Pope Francis is linked to none other than the Queen.

The Queen of Pop, that is.

Yes, Pope Leo and Madonna are related, and that is a strange concept.

Pope Leo is a ninth cousin of the singer and other celebrities via a distant maternal ancestor born in the 1590s.

The internet discovered this piece of trivia, and they have been unable to process the information.

One user on X commented, “Wait, is Pope Leo XIV really a distant relative of Madonna?!” That’s such a strange and legendary link, like royalty meeting pop royalty. I am enamored with this tea.”

Someone else stated, “Papa does not preach, but her distant relative does.”

But this is only the tip of the iceberg; Pope Leo is also connected to Pierre and Justin Trudeau, Hillary Clinton, Angelina Jolie, Justin Bieber, and the great writer Jack Kerouac.

His ancestors include noblemen, liberation fighters, enslaved people, slaveowners who were both Black and white, and others.
