Jimmie Herrod, an AGT participant, took a brave step by singing the 1977 show hit ‘Tomorrow.’ This is Simon Cowell’s least favorite song. But Jimmie’s risk paid off, as he received the coveted Golden Buzzer!
It’s difficult to imagine anyone disagreeing with possibly the most uplifting song from the popular musical Annie. However, in this America’s Got Talent video, Judge Simon Cowell clearly claims that “Tomorrow” is his “worst” song. Simon approaches Jimmie Herrod, an AGT competitor, and exchanges pleasantries. He asks Jimmie his age and what he does for work. Then he confirms that Jimmie is a vocalist, but the modest Jimmie chuckles slightly and adds, “Hopes so.”
And, even if Jimmie appears scared or hesitant, he does not shift course and execute an alternate act. Even when Simon says he should! Undaunted, Jimmie declares that he does not have another song, and begins his performance with a doubtful “good luck” from Simon. Jimmie Herrod, an AGT competitor, sings only a few notes before the judges realize his performance of “Tomorrow” will be very outstanding. His tenor voice provides rich, goose-bump-inducing tones that become stronger and more wonderful as Jimmie sings his way through Simon’s least favorite song.
The looks and responses of all four judges, as well as host Terry Crews, show how impressed they are. Jimmie concludes with a note that resonates indefinitely, demonstrating his remarkable vocal prowess! Three judges give a standing ovation as Jimmie’s final exquisite note concludes. And, after exclaiming “Wow” several times, Simon admits that “Tomorrow” is no longer his worst song. However, things go haywire when Simon asks Sofia for her opinions; Sofia was the only judge who did not vote for the AGT competitor, Jimmie Herrod.
She surprises the panel and the host by admitting that she didn’t particularly enjoy the performance. Unfortunately, Sofia is faking Jimmie out. She claims that instead, she enjoyed it, pressing the Golden Buzzer button at precisely that moment! Sofia runs onstage to congratulate Jimmie as golden confetti comes down from the sky, matching the color of his shirt! The video ends with him calling his father and telling him the good news, because Jimmie is well aware that a Golden Buzzer secures him a berth in the quarterfinals. Jimmie’s grin is as bright as his future and as powerful as his voice!
