The video of a baby hearing her grandfather’s classic Eminem song for the first time has gone viral

With 2.8 million TikTok views, Jake Bass performs the rapper’s 2002 song, Lose Yourself, on the piano for his five-month-old daughter, Bella.

Unbeknownst to her, the diamond-selling song was created by her grandfather, Jeff Bass, also known as “papa” in the video. Newsweek conducted an interview with the 63-year-old and his son, discussing the song’s enduring impact and the video that has evoked shivers.

Jeff Bass stated, “We all felt it was a great song, but never would have predicted the success it’s had,” referring to the fact that it was the first hip-hop song to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song.

The 8 Mile film soundtrack “was an amazing accomplishment,” Jeff Bass stated, adding that he is still “very proud” of it.

Today, it still retains a particular place in many people’s hearts—and it appears that Bella approves as well.

“This was the very first time I played this song for her, which made it all the more special, hence having my wife record the precious moment!” her 34-year-old father, Jake Bass, said to Newsweek.

I was surprised to see how quickly my piano playing captivated her. She clearly has music in her DNA—I knew straight away when she started bobbing her head along to the rhythm!”

Indeed, studies have revealed that families that value music from an early age frequently create a love of it and encourage children to play instruments, thus establishing an atmosphere conducive to musical skill development. Genetics also influences musical talent. Ancestry® found over 6,500 DNA markers associated with playing instruments, with genetic variations accounting for around 6% of this attribute. The genes involved in brain organization, music perception, memory, and listening are important.

The father of two from Detroit, Michigan, stated that music is part of his parenting approach and that both of his girls are “always surrounded by music and musicians.”

So far, the November 28 video has received more than 292,000 likes and 4,405 comments.

“This made my palms sweaty, my knees weak, and my arms heavy,” one user joked, referring to the “Lose Yourself” lyrics.

Another user exclaimed, “Tummy time on the piano is legendary,” while a third commented, “This song made history for sure.”
