While we generally think of exam day as only a stressful day for children, instructors, too, feel the strain. Simply accept middle school teacher Sarah Ashley Winans’ word for it.
Winans recently became viral on TikTok after posting a video of herself visiting the school where she works in the middle of the night while wearing pajamas and a sleeping hat. No, this wasn’t an odd bout of sleepwalking—Winans awoke from her pre-test day slumber to discover she had neglected to plug in her computer charging cart, which was required for students to take the exam.
Fortunately, the problem was very easily avoided. In the video, we watch her get out of her car, open the door, walk down the hall, and go inside her classroom, then emerge in two seconds flat, flashing an “all is well” peace sign to the surveillance camera. Phew.
“Test anxiety isn’t just for kids,” her post stated.
In an interview with Today, Winans explained that her test nervousness stems from a desire to make all of her kids feel at ease. “I don’t sleep much during the testing week because I want them to be okay and confident, rather than frightened and worried. I understand that testing may place a lot of strain on people.
People in the comments expressed their sympathy for Winans’ struggle.

“I just know you were stress-texting your principal,” one person wrote. Another voice echoed, “Y’all know she was (on the phone) with someone because she was scared to death.”
Indeed, Winans called her administrator before heading to the school (which is only a five-minute drive away), and that’s how she obtained this amusing clip. “She let me look at it, and then I said, ‘I have to record it,'” Winans told the source.
Viewers who were not experiencing secondhand worry responded with genuine appreciation.
“This is so Janine coded,” one user said, referring to Quinta Brunson’s character from Abbott Elementary.
“Not all heroes wear capes; they’re in bonnets plugging in the Chromebook cart at 10pm,” joked a different person.
Another individual remarked, “I want to express my appreciation for your exceptional teaching, as it is quite commendable that you would venture out late at night, especially when you are already in your pajamas.” You are great.”
Following the overwhelming response to her film, Winans told Today that she thinks it humanizes teachers and reminds people that while they are not perfect, they do everything possible to provide for their pupils.
“This is exactly what we do. Teachers make mistakes, forget to do things, and do whatever it takes to ensure their students’ success. And I was only doing my job.
So, in addition to providing instruction, therapy, and mentorship, instructors must occasionally do little recovery missions. That is just reason #509 why they deserve more.
@misswinans_teach Test taking anxiety isn’t just for the kids.
