The “Dirty Dancing” star and his wife, Lisa, were married for 33 years… But recently…

They weren’t always happy. Dance class introduced them.

We’re not discussing Dirty Dancing’s plot. Niemi began dance studies at the Houston Ballet Dance Company at 15. Swayze’s mother ran the studio.

They shared something despite meeting when Swayze was 19. “When I looked into his eyes, it was like everything sprang to life,” Niemi said of their first dance.

Swayze liked Niemi, but his “Casanova” dances didn’t work. She disbelieved anything I said. “She wouldn’t talk to me if she believed I was acting, so we spent half of our dates in silence,” Swayze remarked.

Talking about her interests won her over. “I knew she was the smartest lady I’d ever met in my life,” Swayze told her. I didn’t deserve her for a long time.

Their 34-year marriage began in 1975.

Niemi said on Instagram that all they could afford to carry when heading out was 25 cents for an emergency phone call.

The movie’s iconic dancing scene song, “She’s Like the Wind,” was about his wife. “I thought at that point that I’m very, very privileged to have a wife who thinks I hung the moon,” he added.

Patrick was interviewed about his wife in 1988. “She is my creative partner in every aspect,” he remarked. We just feel powerful.

We have genuine chemistry. Like we had met before. Our battles are enormous, but I enjoy them.

Love got them through some horrific things. He struggled to accept this.

Long after his father’s death, he struggled. “Dad was the rock on which our family was constructed,” Swayze said in his memoir. A constant companion. Father cared for us more than mother.

Losing his father and other things harmed him and their connection. They never had children.

Niemi lost her baby in 1990, which was heartbreaking. “When I got there, he was dead,” he writes in his memoirs. I was overwhelmed. Niemi and I cried and hugged in the parking lot.”

Swayze’s depression persisted. After his little sister died suddenly in 1994, his career turned around. Despite their love, these horrific events affected them, and they briefly split up in 2004.

Buying a rural ranch and taking a sabbatical from their occupations revived their romance.

Swayze raised horses with his father. . ц “We collaborate,” Swayze remarked.

“A relationship lasts if you keep your friendship alive, learn how to fall in love again, never take the other person for granted, and look at things with fresh eyes.”

His good days ended. After resuming acting in 2008, he was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer. Swayze survived this sickness for months, unlike most people.

He taped 13 Beast episodes despite the sickness.

After a miraculous 22-month battle, he died. He died alongside his wife.

Swayze died alone with Niemi. She slept on his shoulder, clutched his hand, and listened to music. .

She still praises him.

Niemi added, “When you lose someone, you never stop loving them, and it’s like—I feel like I have a different relationship with him now. “But he’s still in my life and heart, and he’s always with me.”

To honor Swayze, Niemi joined PanCAN, which fights pancreatic cancer. It kept me busy. I would fight for him even though he was gone.”

Niemi honors Swayze on his birthday, wedding anniversary, and death anniversary. She remembers him by horseback riding and eating little treats.

He gave me his blessing. He told me.”
