Mel Brooks, one of the greatest comic actors of all time, is best known for his comedy masterpieces such as Young Frankenstein, Blazing Saddles, and The Producers.
Furthermore, Brooks is still going strong at the age of 97!
He will also win an important honorary Academy Award this year; it was just confirmed!

Brooks, who was born on June 28, 1926, is one of the greatest living legends of show business, with a career spanning 70 years. He began his career as a television writer for Sid Caesar’s Your Show of Shows, and he also co-created Get Smart.
However, his greatest recognition and fortune came from his work as a film director and screenwriter, beginning with the Academy Award-winning The Producers.
Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles, two hugely successful parodies, are usually cited as two of the finest comedies of all time. Among the other films he was responsible for were Spaceballs, History of the World, Part I, Silent Movie, and Robin Hood: Men in Tights.

The Broadway adaptation of The Producers was a huge hit in 2001, earning a record-breaking 12 Tony Awards, including three for Brooks. Brooks worked as a writer and producer on the Hulu series History of the World, Part II, a sequel to his masterwork, earlier this year.
On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the recipients of this year’s honorary Oscars. According to Academy President Janet Yang, the awards recognize “four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans.”
Mel Brooks is among the awardees this year, in appreciation of his vast and illustrious career. Yang said Mel Brooks’ humor “lights up our hearts” and that his legacy “has made a lasting impact on every aspect of entertainment.”

This award is often given to noteworthy individuals who have not received an Oscar, despite the fact that Brooks had previously received a major Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for The Producers in 1969.
In 1975, he was nominated for Best Adapted Screenplay for Young Frankenstein and Best Original Song for the Blazing Saddles theme tune.

Brooks is an unusual “EGOT” (winner of all four major entertainment awards), having received four Emmys, three Grammys, and three Tony Awards.
Carol Littleton, Michelle Satter, the founding senior director of the Sundance Institute’s Artist Programs, and Angela Bassett are among those receiving honorary Oscars this year.

Yang lauded the acclaimed actress, who was previously nominated for her depiction of Tina Turner in What’s Love Got to Do With It? and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever last year. “Across her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting,” Yang said of the actress.
The famous comedian also used the occasion to reminisce on his early days in the entertainment industry and express his happiness with how things turned out.
First and foremost, he joked, “I am very grateful to still be alive.”

“But, secondly, it is so nice to be recognized by my peers in The Academy over 50 years after my last Oscar,” he said.
The famous comedian also used the occasion to reminisce on his early days in the entertainment industry and express his happiness with how things turned out.
“I was given the choice of working as a coffee runner in the entertainment industry or as an apprentice accountant many years ago. Still, I’m pleased I chose the coffee.
Mel Brooks, have a wonderful birthday! Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles, his comic masterpieces, continue to make us laugh decades later, and no one is more deserving of an honorary Oscar.
Mel Brooks, Happy 97th birthday, and thank you for sharing this story!
