Suzanne Somers, who appeared on Three’s Company and Step by Step, has died.
People confirmed that Somers died on Sunday morning. On Monday, she would have turned 77.
“In the early morning hours of October 15th, Suzanne Somers died peacefully at home.” “She fought an aggressive form of breast cancer for over 23 years,” Somers’ longtime publicist R. Couri Hay said in a statement released on behalf of the actress’ family.
“Suzanne was surrounded by her loving husband Alan, her son Bruce, and her immediate family,” according to the statement. “On October 16th, her family gathered to celebrate her 77th birthday. “Instead, they will commemorate her wonderful life and express gratitude to her millions of admirers and followers who adored her.”

In a separate statement, Hay told people that the “beautiful house” in which Somers died was “one of her dreams.”
“There were all these plans, and she was always working and dreaming and had brought her family into the business, and the grandchildren and stepchildren were all part of the business,” the publicist said, adding that she was “very engaged right to the end.”
According to Hay, a private family funeral will take place this week, followed by a monument in November.

Somers previously told people that she was looking forward to celebrating her birthday with her loved ones.
On her birthday, the actress and entrepreneur said she planned to spend it with her “nearest and dearest,” including her “beloved husband Alan [Hamel], our three children, Leslie, Stephen, and Bruce, [his wife] Caroline, and our six wonderful grandchildren.”
Hamel, who married Somers in 1977, complimented her tenacity in the same interview.
“Suzanne and I just returned home from the Midwest, where Suzanne had six weeks of intensive physical therapy,” the former television presenter told PEOPLE. “Even after our five decades together, I still marvel at Suzanne’s amazing determination and commitment.”

Somers revealed in an emotional Instagram post in July that her breast cancer has returned for the first time since her initial diagnosis in 2000.
“As you know, I had breast cancer two decades ago, and every now and then it pops up again, and I continue to bat it down,” she said with a photo of herself and Hamel, 87. To battle it, I employed the most effective alternative and traditional remedies. This is not unfamiliar territory for me. I’m a fighter who knows how to put on my fighting armor.”

In the same tweet, the actress expressed thanks for Hamel’s and her entire family’s support.
“Alan has been by my side every step of the way,” she went on to say. “I can’t even begin to express how much he has done for me.” We’re closer than ever if that’s even possible. My beautiful family has been so supportive and helpful in keeping the business operating so that you may continue to enjoy all of the wonderful items. Thank you for your ongoing love and support. It all comes down to who you love and who loves you, and I adore you.”

Somers also played Sheriff Hildy Granger in She’s the Sheriff (1987–1989), in addition to her legendary performances as Chrissy Snow on Three’s Company (1977–1981) and Carol Foster Lambert on Step by Step (1991–1998).
The actress was also well-known for her novels (she wrote over 25 and was a New York Times best-selling author), as well as her health and beauty businesses, including the ThighMaster exercise equipment.
Somers is survived by her “blended family” of Hamel, her son Bruce, 57, stepchildren Stephen and Leslie, and six grandkids.
