Jane Fonda has sparked outrage on social media after stating that she would only accept a ‘lover’ if they were 20 years old

The American actress and campaigner may have ended up nude with Michael Jackson in the 1980s, but she would not do it now.

Fonda is a well-known cinema icon, best known for her appearances in Barbarella and Monster-in-Law.

The 85-year-old, who is also known for her exercise videos, announced earlier this year that she was quitting alcohol.

“It’s because even with one drink, like, if I had a martini tonight, I’d be at half-mast tomorrow,” she explained.

“That wasn’t always the case when I was younger. But as you get older, I believe alcohol has a different effect on you. And I only have so many more tomorrows. I don’t want my flag to be flown at half-mast for any of them!”

And drinking isn’t the only thing she appears to be giving up now that she doesn’t think she has much time left.

Fonda may be abandoning dating older guys, those her age, or even people significantly younger.

Fonda claimed in an interview with comedian Heather McMahan for her podcast Absolutely Not that if she were to ever ‘have a lover,’ they would have to be much younger than she is.

In a TikTok video that Dear Media posted yesterday (November 29), Fonda states, “I’m ashamed to say this, but if I were to take a lover, he’d have to be 20.”

When McMahan inquires as to why, Fonda says, “Because I don’t like old skin.”

McMahan and the production staff bust out laughing, but Fonda remains serious, her face straight as she adds, “I don’t.”

Fonda’s statements have split social media users and podcast listeners, with individuals flocking to the TikTok post to weigh in on whether or not they agree with Fonda’s ‘lover’ standards.

Some were critical of her, with one user noting, “If a man said that…”

“What about if the 20-year-old doesn’t like old skin?” another added.

“Oh, that’s not,” said a third.

Another said, “I love Jane Fonda, but does she know men in their 30s and 40s don’t have old skin?” That does not happen until later. The same is true for women.”

Others, however, backed Fonda’s remarks.

“People really don’t understand what a joke is!” claimed one user. She’s amusing.”

“Y’all can’t understand a joke. Geez,” said another.

Finally, “Please y’all, this is Jane Fonda.” She’s in a bad mood.”
