Decades after its original airing, a Christmas episode from Season 6 of Dawson’s Creek, titled “Merry Mayhem,” has recently gained attention for an unintended reason. The popular drama, which ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2003, chronicled the lives of a tight-knit group of friends in the fictional Capeside, Massachusetts.
However, 21 years after the episode first aired in 2002, an Instagram account called @90skid4lyfe has brought fans’ focus to a subtle special effects error. In a particular scene featuring Pacey Witter, portrayed by Joshua Jackson, walking through a snow-covered front yard, viewers have noticed that the snow seems to resemble a white blanket upon closer examination.

The Instagram caption humorously mentions the show’s budget constraints, and fans from the ’90s era have swiftly shared their reactions to the viral scene. Some expressed surprise at not noticing it earlier, joking about the days before high-definition television. Comments highlighted the perceived poor quality of the fake snow, with one fan playfully suggesting it looked like they threw a white duvet on the ground, assuming young viewers wouldn’t notice it was fake.

Additionally, another memorable scene from Dawson’s Creek recently captured fans’ interest online. This scene, from the show’s first season, depicts Pacey (Jackson) being hit in the face by a basketball thrown by Dawson Leery (James Van Der Beek) during a heated exchange.

During an April 2023 appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, 25 years after the scene originally aired, Jackson clarified the truth behind the viral clip. Contrary to some fans’ beliefs that the scene used CGI effects, Jackson revealed that the ball was simply a beach ball painted to resemble a basketball, playfully dispelling the notion that any Paceys were harmed in the making of the scene.
