Burger King cook who hasn’t missed work gets big reward

A man who dedicated nearly 30 years of his life to working at Burger King achieved the dream of buying his own house, thanks to an overwhelming outpouring of generosity from well-wishers who donated over $400,000.

Kevin Ford, a cook at Burger King, celebrated an impressive 27 years of unwavering dedication without missing a single day of work. Despite this remarkable achievement, his acknowledgment from the company was a modest gift consisting of a backpack with movie tickets, a Starbucks cup, and some candy and chocolate.

A video showcasing Kevin’s underwhelming gift went viral on social media, prompting the creation of a crowdfunding campaign to support the veteran cook. The campaign exceeded all expectations, raising a staggering $400,000.

In a heartwarming update on December 13, Kevin successfully closed the deal on his first house in Pahrump, Nevada. The 846-square foot property boasts three bedrooms and two bathrooms, purchased for $177,000. Kevin expressed his gratitude on social media, acknowledging the kindness and generosity of those who contributed to the cause.

In a social media post, Kevin shared, “I wanted to show you something, something you made possible, you did for me, just a hardworking guy. Now I know it needs some work, gonna cut off the haters already, I know it’s not a mansion but it’s mine.”

The funds were raised through a GoFundMe campaign initiated by Seryna Ford in June 2022. She clarified that they were not expecting or asking for money but mentioned Kevin’s desire to visit his grandchildren. The campaign ultimately raised $439,000, with the family keeping around $350,000 after GoFundMe deducted a ‘sizeable chunk.’

Expressing his gratitude, Kevin shared a heartwarming message, saying, “I want to thank everyone all around the world for what you have done for me, something I never thought would be possible for me, homeownership.”

Kevin sees the new home as a place for his kids and grandkids to visit. He referred to the experience as a true American dream and a Christmas miracle. As for the remaining funds, Kevin plans to use them for home renovations, support his daughter, and contribute to his retirement.
