According to reports, Hoda’s 4-year-old underwent several days in intensive care in early 2023, subsequently spending over a week in the hospital. The family refrained from disclosing the specific diagnosis due to Hope’s young age, but Hoda mentioned that the condition necessitated continuous monitoring by medical professionals initially.

In a recent reflection on the frightening experience, the Today co-host shared that her family is working towards establishing a long-term plan to ensure Hope’s well-being. Kotb expressed the difficulty of going through such a harrowing situation with a child and emphasized the disbelief and helplessness parents feel when unable to protect their sick child.

In February 2023, Hoda took a two-week hiatus from Today to care for her daughter. As a mother of 7-year-old Haley as well, she acknowledged the importance of not burdening Hope with excessive worry.
