Brother stole the wife’s attention at their wedding, and the fiancee gave him payback he’d never forget about

At my wedding, my brother captured the attention of my wife; and I think that I did well for behaving this way.

My brother, James, has always had a talent for stealing the show. James announced his plan to pop the question to his girlfriend at my wedding, but I declined, emphasizing that the day was solely for my wife and me, and we didn’t want any disruptions.

My mother stole it. She explained that James wanted our family, whom he might not see again for a while, to be a part of the proposal. I was firm. I didn’t care, and I made it clear that I would throw him out if he did it.

The wedding day arrived, and everything seemed perfect until James stepped up during the reception, fell on one knee, and proposed. My mother’s gaze fixed on me, daring me to take action, as gasps rang across the room. I was fuming inside, but I kept quiet. My wife, Emma, appeared wounded and puzzled, and James’ selfish act ruined our perfect occasion.

My mother pulled me aside and threatened to leave if I tried to kick him out. The threat deterred me from raising a commotion, but the recollection of my wedding day being hijacked left a bad taste in my mouth.

James got married last weekend. The venue was stunning, and I could see the satisfaction in his eyes as he and his bride, Sarah, performed their first dance. As they danced to the music, I spotted an opportunity.

I approached the DJ, whispered in his ear, and waited. As the song concluded and James and Sarah enjoyed the applause, the DJ handed me the microphone. “Ladies and gentlemen, can I have your attention for a moment?”

James seemed bewildered, but I persisted. “I have a special announcement to make.” The room went silent. “Emma and I are expecting our first child!”

Gasps filled the room, just as they did at my wedding. James’ face became red with rage, and my mother looked like she wanted to strangle me. Emma, who was aware of the plot, smiled serenely alongside me, her hand resting on her stomach.

We spent the rest of the evening congratulating ourselves and awkwardly glancing at James and Sarah as they struggled to regain the attention they so desperately craved.

Later, James confronted me. “What the hell was that about?”

I stared into his eyes. “Now you understand how it feels, James. You took the spotlight during my wedding, so I thought I’d repay the favor.”

“You’re a real piece of …,” he said sharply.

“Maybe. But you needed to understand that actions have repercussions,” I said quietly.

Mom was furious. “How could you ruin your brother’s wedding like that?”

“How could he ruin mine?” I replied. “I’m tired of him always making everything about himself.”

James rushed out, and Mom followed, giving one final angry gaze at me.

As I watched them leave, I felt a mixture of satisfaction and remorse. I knew I had made my point, but I also realized I had probably pushed a wedge deeper within our family.

Emma took my hand. “Was it worth it?” she inquired quietly.

I exhaled. “I do not know. However, he needed to comprehend the importance of not crossing certain limits.
We left the wedding early, knowing we had permanently altered the dynamics of our family. Only time will tell if this is for the better or worse.
