Throughout his illustrious career, Phil Collins, the renowned drummer and lead singer of Genesis, has achieved immense success in the music industry.

He is among a select group of three artists who have sold over 100 million records in solo and collaborative efforts, alongside Michael Jackson and Paul McCartney. Born on January 30th, 1951, in London, England, to artistic parents, Collins was immersed in music from a young age.

At the age of five, he received a homemade drum kit from his uncle, equipped with tambourines, triangles, cymbals, and small drums, laying the foundation for his unique sound.

As the English beat scene began to emerge, with influential bands like The Shadows leading the way, Collins found himself at the forefront of this movement, regularly performing at social gatherings hosted by his parents’ boating club.

Inspired by rock and roll, Collins purchased a record player and The Beatles’ album “Please Please Me” at the age of fourteen. To avoid distractions while playing drums, he set up his kit in front of a mirror and turned up the record player’s volume.

Although he initially took drum lessons to learn how to read sheet music, Collins realized that playing by intuition was more effective than reading notation.
