The King of the Cowboys and his wife, ‘The Queen of the West’, had nine children. Let’s meet them…

Roy Rogers, often known as the “King of the Cowboys,” and his wife Dale Evans, the “Queen of the West,” were among Hollywood’s first television stars.

Rogers, known as the singing cowboy with his loyal palomino horse Trigger, was the most popular western celebrity of his day. He starred in more than 100 films and had his own show, The Roy Rogers Show.

Rogers had nine children from his marriages with Grace Arline Wilkins and Dale Evans. Some of his offspring followed in his Hollywood footsteps, while others chose a life away from the spotlight. Here is a closer look at each of Roy Rogers’ children.

Cheryl Rogers: In 1941, Rogers and his second wife, Grace Arline Wilkins, adopted her from Hope Cottage in Texas. As a child, Cheryl grew up with her father’s favorite horse, Trigger, and acted in some of his films, including Meet Roy Rogers and Trail of Robin Hood.

Linda Lou Rogers was born to Grace two years after she adopted Cheryl. Linda married Gary Johnson, a clergyman, and they were together for nearly 40 years till his death in 2008. Linda resides in California, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.

Roy Rogers Jr., often known as “Dusty,” is the sole biological son of Roy Rogers. Grace died shortly after his birth as a result of birthing problems. Dusty was a youngster on The Roy Rogers Show before becoming his father’s manager. He also played with the Sons of the Pioneers and his own band, Roy Rogers Jr. and the High Riders.

Robin Elizabeth Rogers: Dale Evans gave birth to Robin, their only child. Robin was born with Down syndrome and died before her second birthday owing to complications from mumps. Dale wrote the novel Angel Unaware to honor her memory.

At the age of seven months, Dodie Rogers, who is of Native American origin, underwent adoption. She married Jon Patterson, a NASA employee, and they have a daughter, Kristin. Dodie is now grandma.

Mimi Rogers: Marion Fleming, also known as Mimi, was born in Edinburgh, Scotland. Roy and Dale met her at a children’s home and were so taken with her singing that they transported her to California, where she became a member of their family. Mimi married Dan, a Marine Corps veteran, and they had three children before he died. Mimi is now grandma.

After becoming an orphan during the Korean War, Deborah Lee Rogers found adoption. Tragically, she perished in a bus accident in Los Angeles when she was 12 years old, along with other children from her church.

Sandy Rogers: After Robin’s death, the family adopted John David “Sandy” Rogers. He joined the United States Army but died of choking in a military hospital in Germany at the age of 18.

Roy and Dale raised Tom Fox, Dale’s biological son from her first marriage. He became a schoolteacher and music minister before passing away in 2012.

Roy Rogers and Dale Evans’ family narrative is one of joy, sadness, and love, exemplifying their strong family values and lasting legacy.
