Jessica Alba surprises her parents by purchasing her father’s childhood home in a touching video

Jessica Alba has shared the emotional moment she surprised her parents with a soon-to-be refurbished home—but it wasn’t just any house!

On Friday, Aug. 30, the Trigger Warning actor, who collaborates with co-host Lizzy Mathis on their Roku Original series Honest Renovations, posted a video to her YouTube channel about a “special renovation” that the two were working on: her father’s boyhood house.

“I started my dream project almost three years ago.” I surprised my parents by purchasing a house! Alba, 43, stated in the video’s description, “It was extra sentimental because it was my grandfather’s house where my father grew up 🥹.”

“After my grandfather died, my parents planned to sell the house to cover my grandmother’s medical costs. Well… I appeared to assist them in flipping it before selling, when, in fact, I had intended to buy it for them all along.

Alba announced in the video that she would “put up for sale” the family home due to her grandmother’s 24-hour care needs, and she chose to remodel it with the assistance of Mathis and Tinku, a family friend and builder.

After demolishing the house and finalizing floor plans, Alba revealed the news to her parents in a segment of the movie shot in June 2021 and released this week.

“The last piece of the puzzle is that I have been trying to figure out how to tell you guys that I’m going to buy you guys this house,” Alba told reporters. “So don’t buy it yourself.”

The film then turned to an image of Alba hugging her parents, Mark and Catherine, who were extremely distressed. “Now the house you grew up in, Dad, is yours,” Alba murmured before Mark sat down and covered his face, assuring his daughter that her grandpa would “be proud of you.”

“I know he’d be proud of my baby girl,” he subsequently said. “I’m able to live in the house and hopefully make him proud.”

While the house surprise is now available on YouTube, Alba promised at the movie’s conclusion that a second portion—where viewers can observe the remodeling process—will be released soon.

“Even just watching this trailer back, I’m filled with so many feels—after keeping this big secret, letting my parents in on the surprise, followed by many, many months of working to make the house perfect for my parents, I can’t believe this happened,” Alba wrote alongside the video’s summary.

“Grampers, this is for you—we love and miss you more than you know 🫶🏽❤️ Now, a big thank you to my partners in crime, @lizzymathis, Tinku, and everyone else who helped make this idea a reality; I couldn’t have done it without you.”
