Beyond teaching tactics and abilities, the first step in coaching basketball is to instill values like respect and gratitude for the opportunity to play. This goes beyond simply teaching techniques and skills. These rights are owed to athletes who sacrificed their lives and studies to fight in wars. They made sacrifices to earn our freedoms today.

The act of singing the national anthem before significant sporting events has transformed into a spectacle, often losing its profound significance. On the other hand, it is essential that players acknowledge and value its significance. Buzz Williams, the head coach of the Virginia Tech basketball team, asserts, “These kids need to understand why they’re performing it, even though I don’t mind Lady Gaga singing it.”

Williams provided his team with a compelling and dramatic lecture that underlined the value of learning and appreciating the national anthem as well as the ideas that it represents. We did this to make sure the athletes understood the significance of this time-honored tradition.
