Surgeon who tried to save Diana’s life shares her last moments

Princess Diana was popular all around the world. She was down-to-earth, witty, a loving mother, and an excellent role model for many people.

The devastating automobile accident in Paris that claimed Diana’s life was an event that no one will forget. Diana was mourned all around the world, and her legacy will endure indefinitely.

But what exactly transpired that night in Paris? And what about her injuries? MonSef Dahman, the surgeon who attempted to save Diana’s life on that fateful night, has come up for the first time.

Diana’s death stunned the nation, leaving her kids, William and Harry, without a mother. Experts have examined and debated the catastrophic vehicle collision and its likely cause several times. However, a victim of the tragedy has recently come forward.

Surgeon MonSef Dahman was working at a hospital in Paris at the time, and he was entrusted with attempting to save Diana’s life.

In a recent interview with the Daily Mail, he revealed the complete tale of what actually occurred.

“The thought that you have lost an important person, for whom you cared personally, marks you for life,” he told the British media.

Initially, Dahman had no intention of working that night. His wife got pregnant when he was a young general surgeon on duty at France’s largest hospital. They were supposed to travel on vacation away from Paris, but his wife was pregnant with the couple’s second child, so they chose to stay.

As a result, Dahman worked the whole summer. Because he was a young doctor, his shifts were extremely lengthy. And this weekend, he started work at 8 a.m. but stayed on duty until 2 a.m. the next morning.

Dahman described it as a “pretty easy” day. He had a brief respite and was not required to perform any challenging tasks.

But around 2 a.m., everything shifted drastically.

Diana’s automobile slammed into a Parisian tunnel at about 12.23am. Doctors treated her for a long time on the site, but she died of cardiac arrest in the ambulance.

Diana arrived at the hospital at six minutes past two a.m.

“I was resting in the duty room when I got a call from Bruno Riou, the senior duty anesthetist, telling me to go to the emergency room,” Dahman revealed to the Daily Mail. “I wasn’t told it was Lady Diana, but [only] that there’d been a serious accident involving a young woman.”

Dahman was 33 years old at the time. When he emerged from the restroom, which was approximately 50 meters from the emergency center, he realized how terrible things were.

He learned that Princess Diana was the one lying on the stretcher when he entered the room.

“It only took that moment for all of this unusual behavior to become clear to me,” he recounted.

“For any clinician or surgeon, seeing such a young woman in this situation is really important. But, of course, especially if she is a princess.”

When Diana arrived at the hospital, she received an X-ray, which indicated she had sustained major inside injuries. She promptly had a blood transfusion.

Diana experienced another heart attack only 15 minutes after arriving. Dahman conducted a surgery, but the princess’ injuries were too severe.

Her heart just wouldn’t restart.

“We tried electric shocks several times and, as I had done in the emergency room, cardiac massage,” Dahman recounted. “Professor Riou administered adrenaline. But we couldn’t get her heart to beat again.

Dahman and his medical team struggled for Diana’s life. But in the end, there was little they could do. Pitié-Salpêtrière was one of France’s top hospitals for these crises, and saving those brought in made him “happy and proud.”.

In Diana’s situation, he felt hopeful at first. However, they were eventually unable to save her.

“We fought hard; we tried a lot, really an awful lot,” he told me. Working in such conditions can cause one to lose track of time. The only thing that matters is that we do everything we can to help this young woman.

“We couldn’t save her.” This had a significant impact on us.”

Every year when August arrives, MonSef Dahman, who now works as a physician in the French town of Antibes, recalls that dreadful night at the hospital in 1997. He, like millions of others across the world, watched the funeral. It was a horrible catastrophe.

“I don’t go back to it all the time because so many years have passed,” he told the Daily Mail. “But every time a new book about Diana’s de.a.th comes out in France, I receive it.” Unfortunately, I am collecting such books.

In the next days, he observed an unpleasant and embarrassing scenario. Members of the media sought to penetrate the hospital’s wards and passageways to get closer to those involved in Diana’s care.

“Pitié-Salpêtrière is a public hospital,” he adds. “The princess received treatment in a facility that also housed other medical patients. We noticed persons impersonating medical personnel, pulling trolleys, and attempting to get information. There was a lot of strain on our security.

Princess Diana is still beloved by people all around the world, as her spirit and legacy carry on.

Express released a 90-minute documentary in 2021 that revealed new details about Princess Diana’s final days. Richard Kay, a journalist and royal specialist, appears in the video and reveals that he was the last person to speak to Diana before the catastrophic car collision.

“I chatted with her that night. “The police said her last call was to me,” Kay recounted.

Diana and Prince Charles finalized their divorce one year before her death. According to certain sources, Diana was terrified the Queen and Charles were scheming to remove her from Harry and William. This is according to biographer Howard Hodgson, author of the 2007 book Charles: The Man Who Will Be King.

“She was well aware that the Queen had the constitutional right and authority under common law to take control of both boys’ care and education,” according to Hodgson.

“As such, she could become the boys’ guardian or even appoint one: this would probably be their father, and that might lead to Diana’s exclusion if she finally burned all her bridges with the royal family.”

Richard Kay stated that Diana was in “quite a good place” following her breakup from Prince Charles. She was about to begin a new chapter in her life when she and her children were abruptly separated.

“She was desperate to try and make a fresh start and do something different— to explore a different kind of royalty,” Kay told me. “And she wanted to come back and see her boys.”

Princess Diana’s “remarkable life” was commemorated in a 2021 documentary. According to Executive Producer David Glover, the documentary arrived at the “perfect time to re-examine her life and legacy.”.

“There is something a bit magical about Princess Diana—and despite the difficulties in her personal life, she managed to use her connection with people to do huge amounts of good,” Glover told the audience.

“Her 60th birthday feels like the perfect time to re-examine her life and legacy and explore just how she went from a relatively unknown teenager to the most mourned person who ever lived.”
