Gene Hackman, an Oscar-winning actor, and his wife, Betsy Arakawa, were found dead at their home.

Gene Hackman and his wife, a classical pianist, had been married since 1991 and were rarely seen in public.

They were found dead in their Santa Fe Summit home on Wednesday, February 26. Authorities have not suspected foul play, but an investigation is still ongoing.

On Wednesday afternoon, sheriff’s deputies arrived at Hackman and Arakawa’s home on Old Sunset Trail to investigate the deaths of an elderly couple and a dog. It is unclear if the cops responded after receiving a warning about their deaths or were doing a welfare check.

However, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza revealed just after midnight on Thursday that two-time Oscar winner Gene Hackman, his wife, and their dog had all perished. Mendoza added that there were no early indicators of foul play but did not provide a cause of death or an estimate of when the couple died.

The 95-year-old novelist and his 63-year-old wife have been living in Santa Fe since the 1980s. Their property was situated in a gated enclave off Hyde Park Road, just north of Ten Thousand Waves.

Mendoza has already informed the public that he and his colleagues are conducting preliminary investigations as they await clearance of the search warrant. He also assured the people of their safety, stating that they were not in immediate danger.
