Robert De Niro has expressed his response to Airyn, one of his seven daughters, coming out as transgender at the age of 29.
De Niro, 81, has children with Diahnne Abbott, Toukie Smith, Grace Hightower, and Tiffany Chen, and his most recent addition to the family was born in April 2023.
Airyn was born in 1995, along with her twin, Julian, while De Niro was in a relationship with Smith, which he ended the following year.
Airyn has recently come out as transgender in an interview with Them, admitting that she struggled to fit into ‘beauty standards’ and was always told she was ‘too much of something or not enough of something’ as a child.
After seeing other trans women speak up about their transitions, Airyn began hormone therapy in November.

She emphasized the need for trans women to be open and honest, particularly in public venues like social media, and to recognize their accomplishments. I am like, you know what? Perhaps it isn’t too late for me. “Maybe I can start.”
Airyn expressed anxiety that her family would maybe still think of [her] as the person [she] was before the transition,’ and De Niro has spoken to People about his reaction to Airyn’s news.
The actor made it clear that his sentiments for Airyn have not changed, stating that he has always ‘loved and supported’ his kid, adding, “I love and support Airyn as my daughter. I’m uncertain about the significance of his statement, “I love all of my children.”
Airyn complimented her parents for keeping her ‘out of the limelight,’ stating that they wanted her childhood to be very quiet.’
“They have told me they wanted me to have as much of a normal childhood as possible,” she informed me.

Nonetheless, being the daughter of one of Hollywood’s most well-known stars, Airyn attracted attention.
She stated, “There is a distinction between being seen and being seen; I have been visible. I don’t believe anyone has spotted me yet.
Moving on, Airyn is now studying to become a mental health counselor and is eager to achieve success ‘on [her] own merit,’ while her father is interested in his children ‘finding [their] own type of route.’
Airyn also wishes to inspire those who are dealing with their identity, stating, “I’d like to hopefully be an inspiration for at least one other person like me who is Black, queer, and not a size extra small.”
“I’d want to see more trans women—more Black women who are maybe bigger-bodied or don’t fit the mold of super- thin or heroin chic.”
