James Middleton has opened up about his older sister Kate Middleton’s cancer diagnosis.
Middleton, 38, revealed to The Times regarding mental health and his new book that it “was a challenging time” for the family when Princess Kate, 43, disclosed she had been diagnosed with cancer and was having treatment in March 2024.
On September 9, the Princess of Wales said that she had finished treatment and was taking “each day as it comes,” before announcing her cancer remission in January of this year.
Middleton, whose book Meet Ella: The Dog Who Saved My Life was just released in paperback in the United Kingdom, told The Times about his sister’s health journey: “What I believe is that, as a family, you learn to observe, analyze, and comprehend things. It was a difficult moment for her and her family, as I am sure it was for us and our larger family, but I believe it is all about communicating and providing support and assistance when possible.”
“Being there for someone is vital, and it shouldn’t be on your terms.” It should be on their terms, without conditions: ‘I’m not doing it for anything in exchange; I’m doing it because I love you,’ the novelist and British entrepreneur added.

“That’s the easiest method to truly demonstrate affection. You can do it in various clever ways, but it’s really just being there,” the father of one told the site.
During the conversation, Middleton also discussed being diagnosed with attention deficit disorder and severe depression in late 2017 after experiencing suicidal thoughts.
According to the publication, he underwent cognitive behavioral therapy and was prescribed medicine to regulate an irregular heartbeat and help him sleep, as well as antidepressants for a while. He informed the magazine that he is no longer taking medicine.
“And you know, credit to my sister and brother-in-law [Kate and Prince William] for what they were doing with Heads Together at the time,” Middleton added of the mental health initiative launched by the Prince and Princess of Wales and Prince Harry in 2016.
Middleton said Princess Kate and their sister, Pippa Middleton, 41, had even accompanied him to a few treatment sessions.

“Having them there assured me that I was surrounded by individuals who actually understood what I was going through. “I think the biggest challenge was that I had my stigma around mental health,” he told the site.
Middleton’s comments on Princess Kate’s cancer diagnosis follow his statement to individuals in September, advertising the U.S. release of his book. “There are tremendous numbers of individuals who suffer through [cancer]. It makes no difference who you are or how you were raised.” Life throws obstacles at you.”
He said, “We’re a tight family. It is always crucial to have help and not try to accomplish things on your own. Sharing it can help bring people closer.” My love and support for my family is more than just an Instagram post,” he said, referring to his March social media post announcing the diagnosis.
Middleton had said on Instagram at the time, “Over the years, we have scaled many mountains together.” As a family, we will climb this one with you,” he said beside a photo of himself and his siblings from their youth.
