Scarlett Johansson gets payback on Michael Che after a roast beef SNL joke

Scarlett Johansson had her retribution!

During the May 17 episode of Saturday Night Live, the actress, 40, retaliated against Michael Che after the comic forced Johansson’s husband, Colin Jost, to recite a joke about her on the show’s winter finale last year—when the couple traded quips they had written for each other but had not previously seen.

At one point, Jost, 42, joked, “Costco has removed their roast beef sandwich from their menu, but I ain’t tripping; I’ve been eating roast beef every night since my wife had the kid.”

Johansson suddenly seemed stunned backstage, mouthing, “Oh my God.” (They have a three-year-old son, Cosmo.)

Johansson joined the two on Weekend Update on SNL’s most recent broadcast, which celebrated the series’ 50th season finale.

“Before I tell another joke, I want to take this opportunity to apologize to someone I hurt,” Che, 41, added, leading Johansson to appear onstage.

“Last time we did joke swaps, I made Colin do some tasteless jokes, comparing your vagina to Costco roast beef,” Che said, causing the actress to sarcastically respond, “Yes, I remember that.”

Che then replied, according to the joke Jost wrote for him, “I was simply lashing out because I am envious. I have never seen a human vagina. I specified “human” because I once spent a summer on a farm.

In a recent Vanity Fair cover story, Johansson, who is also the mother of daughter Rose Dorothy with ex-husband Romain Dauriac, described the moment the joke was told.

“I had all of these cameras on me.” I hadn’t expected the arrangement to be like that. “I was like, ‘Wow, you really are seventh- and eighth-grade boys,'” she explained.

Johansson reportedly hinted to the source at the time that she planned to get back at Che for the joke, saying, “I believe it’s almost my responsibility to come up with some way to burn Michael back.”

“I believe we should expect retaliation.” Others on the show might share this ambition. Do you understand what I mean? She added.

Johansson and Jost began dating in 2017. They got engaged in May 2019 and married in October 2020.

The Jurassic World Rebirth actor mocked her marriage to the “Weekend Update” anchor in a trailer that played ahead of SNL’s most recent season finale, in which Jost is struck by a dart after proposing he and Johansson “finally kiss” in a comedy.

Johansson hosted SNL for the eighth time, making her the most frequent female host of the show. Before the finale, Johansson has hosted six times, the same number as Tina Fey and Drew Barrymore.

Alec Baldwin, the male celebrity with the same moniker, has hosted SNL 17 times in its history.

Saturday Night Live will return to NBC later this year.
