Prince Harry recreates Princess Diana’s moment with Prince Archie in Disneyland 31 years later

Prince Harry recalled a cherished period in his boyhood by taking his family to Disneyland, reliving a memorable time with his late mother, Princess Diana.

In August 1993, eight-year-old Harry and his elder brother, Prince William, who was 11 at the time, paid a VIP visit to Walt Disney World in Florida alongside Princess Diana. The vacation provided the family with a rare moment of joy and normalcy, taking place just months after Diana separated from her husband, Prince Charles.

Disney blocked off Splash Mountain to other customers, giving the group a unique trip. Diana and the boys were led through Disney’s VIP underground tunnels by close friends and security personnel.

A server at Flagler’s restaurant (now Citricos) in the Grand Floridian told PEOPLE, “They were all very nice and well-behaved.” She was a sweetie.

Fast forward 31 years to June 6, when Meghan Markle uploaded a video montage of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s family vacation to Disneyland in Anaheim, California, to celebrate their daughter Princess Lilibet’s fourth birthday, which came only two days later. They were joined by their six-year-old son, Prince Archie.

“Thank you @disneyland for giving our family two days of pure joy!” the Duchess of Sussex, Meghan, posted on Instagram, while Peggy Lee’s “It’s a Good Day” played in the background.

The event included a detailed two-tiered birthday cake inspired by The Little Mermaid, which might be an homage to Lilibet’s favorite (and fellow red-headed!) Disney Princess.

Meghan, Harry, Lilibet, and Archie were all shown wearing Mickey Mouse ears. The family enjoyed various activities, including the newly refurbished Splash Mountain, which has been renamed Tiana’s Bayou Adventure as of 2024.

They also met Star Wars stormtroopers and Elsa from Frozen while eating traditional park fare like corndogs and pickles.
