Reese Witherspoon lit up Cannes in white, announcing a daring new initiative focused on Gen Z women.

Reese Witherspoon headlined the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity on Wednesday. During the occasion, she announced a bold new chapter in her media career.

The Oscar-winning actress and media entrepreneur unveiled Sunnie, a Hello Sunshine spinoff aimed at Generation Z. It seeks to highlight the inventiveness and perseverance of young women.

The Hollywood celebrity donned extravagant attire. She wore a fitted short white dress with puffed sleeves and a scoop neckline, which highlighted her gorgeous physique on stage.

She accessorized the look with white stiletto shoes and striking buckle detailing. At 49, the actress prioritized empowerment above looks. She conceived Sunnie as a forum for challenging the media’s dominant myths about young women.

Sunnie, which Witherspoon describes as a “celebration” of young women’s creativity and autonomy, marks a new chapter in her continuing endeavor to spotlight marginalized voices in media.

Speaking to the audience, the actress underlined the need for honesty and positivity among Generation Z women.

“It’s been a dream of mine to build a space where young women can be the truest version of themselves,” she added. She further stated that young women aren’t “defined by doom and gloom as they’re often portrayed—they’re often portrayed in media—they’re complex, creative individuals with incredible agency.”

The effort, funded by her media firm Hello Sunshine, aspires to function as a dynamic, multi-platform ecosystem. It will feature social media material, digital zines, book clubs, educational curriculum, and live events.

The brand will also collaborate with Gen Z influencers, including YouTuber Lana Condor, actor Raegan Revord, and Canadian diver Molly Carlson.

We also developed strategic agreements with well-known organizations like AnitaB.org, the Child Mind Institute, Purdue University, and others. These institutions will act as the brand’s official academic partners.

The Sunnie concept will encompass both digital and physical venues. This includes social media content, zines, book clubs, instructional resources, and live events. According to Maureen Polo, Hello Sunshine’s head of direct-to-consumer marketing, the project displays a greater understanding of its target population.

“Young women, despite the many pressures they face, are intentionally creating space for joy,” she added, citing research indicating a disparity between how Gen Z women are depicted and how they perceive themselves.

Hello Sunshine, founded in 2016 by Witherspoon and Sarah Harden, has established itself as a producer of female-led storytelling. The credits include “Big Little Lies” and “The Morning Show.” Candle Media purchased the firm in 2021.
