Larsa Pippen explains the reason for her altered appearance

Larsa Pippen is speaking up about her new look and criticizing a doctor who declared she had “excessive facial filler.”

In a comment posted Friday, Aug. 8, beneath New Jersey-based aesthetic specialist Mai Kaga’s Instagram video, Pippen, 51, encouraged the doctor to “chill out” and revealed one particular reason for her new look.

“Honey, I had PRP and had an allergic reaction, so chill out,” the Real Housewives of Miami actress wrote.

The Cleveland Clinic defines PRP therapy, or platelet-rich plasma treatment, as a regenerative medicine approach in which healthcare personnel “process your blood to concentrate the number of platelets in the plasma and then inject it back into your body.” According to the clinic, this treatment may be beneficial for musculoskeletal injuries and other ailments that are resistant to recovery.

In her tweet on August 7, Kaga noted that Pippen had gone from “naturally beautiful to noticeably overfilled.”

“From excessive facial fillers to questionable surgery choices, her transformation is a reminder that not all cosmetic work is good work,” Kaga stated in the video’s caption. “Even with unlimited funds, choosing the right injector matters.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, angioedema—an allergic response that affects deeper layers of the skin—usually resolves within a day, although it might continue for many weeks in rare circumstances.

Pippen, the ex-wife of former NBA player Scottie Pippen, also received a response from Kaga, who wrote, “Double board certified physician here, AKA Honey.”

“Allergic reactions to PRP are extremely rare,” Kaga revealed on Page Six. “Allergies to your own blood cells are not particularly prevalent. Second, allergic responses do not endure three seasons on a streaming network.

In an Aug. 9 follow-up video, Kaga also stated that she blames any prospective doctors who may have given Pippen aesthetic or cosmetic procedures.

“Yes, she’s asking for these treatments, but there is somebody on the other side of that that is saying yes, and they shouldn’t be,” Kaga told me. “Taking advantage of people and taking their money when they ask for something—that’s not a good injector, that’s a salesperson.”

“You want somebody that’s going to say, ‘That’s not really for you; that’s not really what you’re going to be looking for,'” she told me. “She obviously has a ton of natural beauty, and that’s what we should be trying to preserve and enhance.”

Kaga then stated in a separate remark that she created her first video in the hopes of “[protecting] current and future generations of young women and men from having this outcome because they go to a doctor that they trust blindly, and they end up overfilled and overtreated.”

“By bringing awareness to this, hopefully it can help even just one person to think critically and not ruin their own natural beauty,” she told me.

Pippen also made news in July when she revealed that she and boyfriend Jeff Coby were planning to take their relationship to the next level by looking for engagement rings.

During an interview with PEOPLE at the time, the reality TV personality revealed that she and the 31-year-old basketball player are “on a really good path right now” and had discussed a possible engagement.

“We get along with anything.” He’s been asking me what shapes of stones I like, so I’ve been giving him little hints,” Pippen said of her boyfriend, whom she has been dating since early 2025.

“We haven’t really talked about the size, but we just talked about [how] I like the brilliant cut or an oval,” she told me. “I feel like those are really cute.”

Pippen also mentioned trying to keep their connection covert at first.

“I didn’t want to share it with the world, but now I’m in a place where we get along really well, we basically do everything together, and so now we’re more open,” she told me. “But I think the first few months, I felt like we were together every day and just did very normal things, and nobody even knew that we were together.”
