The bride wanted her daughter with autism to fully participate in the event, so she did something unexpected…

Weddings are lovely, emotive days, but they can also be extremely stressful. So, when bride Jodie Bevan (@jodiebevan08) started arranging her wedding to groom Matthew, every detail was centered on making it an autism-friendly day for her teenage daughter, Sofia.

In a series of TikTok videos, bride Jodie showed exactly how she made Sofia comfortable on her wedding day. Sofia’s every aspect, from her wardrobe to her makeup, was tailored to her demands.

“We tailored our wedding day to Sofia’s needs as a teen with autism and special needs.” From her outfit material to her tranquil haircut and sensory play pack. “I was worried about Sofia on our wedding day, but she was amazing, and I couldn’t be more proud of her 🤍,” she captioned the image.

@jodiebevan08 We planned our wedding day around Sofia’s needs as a teen with autism and special needs. From her dress material to a calm hairstyle, to a sensory toy bag. How Sofia would be on our day was my biggest worry but she was honestly incredible and I could be more proud of her 🤍 Thankyou again @BTS | Luxury Wedding Content for capturing all these beautiful videos 🤍. #AutismAcceptance #InclusiveWedding #SofiaStrong #SensoryFriendly #SpecialNeedsParent #NeurodivergentLove #WeddingWithHeart #weddingday #weddingdress #weddingflowers #autismawareness #senmum #senmumlife #fyp ♬ Little Things – One Direction

“We’re planning our wedding with Sofia’s needs first. We informed all of our providers, including the photographer, of Sofia’s needs ahead of time. “We finished Sofia’s photos first so she could relax,” she said in the video.

She then remarked on the attention to detail in Sofia’s dress as shown in the film as she assisted Sofia in getting ready for the wedding ceremony. “This was the first dress she’d worn in almost a decade! We made sure it wasn’t scratchy, fussy, or lengthy,” she explained. “She had her comfortable clothing to change into when the shots were completed. These are the same shoes she wears every day, just in white. Sofia also clutched a teddy bear dressed in a suit.

@jodiebevan08 Reading the comments in my last video has made me realise how much more awareness we need for special needs children. I know I am doing a good job at being Sofias advocate. I am her safe place, so what ever I am doing, I’m doing it right 🤍 #sen #autismawareness #autismacceptance #senparentsoftiktok #senmum #specialneeds #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp #weddingtok #weddingday ♬ original sound – Clerissa West

After detailing Sofia’s outfit, Jodie went on to discuss her hair and cosmetics. “Hair is a BIG sensory trigger for Sofia, so we went for something very simple, no fuss, and went at her pace,” she told me. “The amazing hairdresser even curled it!” We requested little makeup, just skincare and brows. This was unnecessary, but she appreciated it, and I wanted her to feel involved.

Finally, Jodie explained how she used sensory toys to make Sofia feel more at ease at the wedding reception. “I prepared a suitcase with everything she enjoys. Toys, pens, paper, an iPad, and other items were placed on her plate during the wedding meal,” she stated.

Jodie concluded the article with a heartfelt sentiment on what it meant to include Sofia on her special day. “Weddings are not about perfection; they are about love. And for us, love meant making sure Sofia had a nice day as well.

@jodiebevan08 Having special needs we’ve always known Sofia will never get married or walk down the isle in a white dress – I cant tell you how much this moment means to me🤍 The moment she spots Matthew too “my matthew”🥹I couldn’t be more proud of her, not only walking into a room full of people she doesn’t know but even wearing a dress when she lives in leggins and jumpers daily! Thank you for capturing this @BTS | Luxury Wedding Content I will forever be grateful 🤍 #senmum #weddingdress #weddingvibes #specialneeds #autismawareness #weddingday #weddingtok #fyppppppppppppppppppppppp ♬ Truly Madly Deeply – Sidney

And fans adored every touching detail Jodie gave heed to ensure Sofia’s well-being. “I’m sorry, but the teddy bear in the suit 😭😭😭💖💖💖💖,” one said. Jodie responded, “He was her plus one 😂😂🤍.” Added another viewer: “You say weddings aren’t about perfection, but I think this is the most perfect expression of love for your family ❤️.” Another viewer posted, “My sister has autism, and she was my bridesmaid. She’s 13, and it was the first time she wore a dress in many years, and to say she smashed it was an understatement 💗,” to which Jodie answered, “That’s amazing!” I felt very proud of Sofia even wearing the outfit since I understood how huge it was for her 🤍.” And another viewer said, “My god, this made me so emotional.” How amazing! ❤️”
