The stars weigh 1,000 pounds. Sisters are mourning the death of their relative.
Amanda Halterman, Tammy and Amy Slaton’s sister, reported on Instagram on Tuesday, August 26, that their cousin Katie Slaton died the day before at the age of 37, following a diagnosis of stage 4 cancer.
“I’m posting this with an utterly devastated heart and soul. Amanda said, “My little cousin went to sit at Jesus’ feet yesterday,” with a photo of the two. She was a force to be reckoned with, demonstrating unconditional love. She was the life of the party and my closest friend.
“I know both our grandparents and friends were there to welcome you home,” according to her. “Please pray for my aunt, uncle, and cousins, but most importantly for the babies and Natalie’s strength. Please pray for everyone who loves her. 💔 Thank you to everyone who has come out and supported her. #cancerscks.”
Tammy and Amy have yet to speak publicly about Katie’s death.

Tammy, on the other hand, wrote on Instagram and shared a GoFundMe page in January, urging her followers to give to Katie’s cancer struggle and pray for her family along the way.
“Y’all, I’m so sorry to be asking a big favor like this, but if anyone can help, even if it’s a dollar, it would help my cousin out so much,” she texted. “She has appeared on my show, but this is something fresh. Our family just found out that she had cancer.”
“Our fans have been there for us for so long now, and y’all mean the world, so any act of kindness is and will be greatly appreciated,” Tammy told me. “Thank you so much, and before anyone asks, yes, I’ve donated myself.”
Katie was diagnosed with stage 4 gastric adenocarcinoma, a rare kind of stomach cancer, at the start of the year and has been having chemotherapy in the months following. According to her obituary, she died of the condition on Monday, August 25, at the Linda White Hospice House in Evansville, Indiana.
Katie appeared on 1000-Lb Sisters several times, most notably in season 5, when Tammy was discharged from rehab after losing weight.
