We all have miscellaneous coins lying around the house that don’t amount to very much and, due to their size, can’t always be used to pay for goods when we’re out shopping since we simply can’t carry that many of them.
The vast majority of us will, at some point or another in our lives, figure out how to make use of the coins and change we receive from our shopping expeditions; yet…
They don’t seem to have much value, until we pick up a penny from the ground and it turns out to be a sign that the next day will be loaded with luck for us. In that case, they’re very cool.
Even though pennies are relatively small both in terms of size and value, there is an adage that says “Drops of water collected over time will eventually form a flowing stream.”
This applies to pennies as well.
A small group of people have the lucrative practice of collecting coins over a lengthy period of time, and then selling them at the end of the journey for a reasonable sum of money to make up for the time spent collecting them.
A random collection of pennies may, over the course of a few years, add up to the expense of an extravagant evening out, or it may supply the exact sum that is necessary to purchase an outfit that is gorgeous.
Otha Anders, who hails from Ruston, Louisiana, is well aware that if one is patient and collects small quantities over the course of time, pennies have the potential to accumulate into a vast fortune that will definitely astound everyone.
Since he was more than 45 years old, Anders has put his spare change into water jugs that hold 5 gallons.
In 2015, his homeowner’s insurance coverage ceased covering his pennies, and he needed some additional cash, so he was forced to eventually pay them in.
He had saved them for a long time. When he finally brought his savings to the bank, the teller was taken aback by the amount that he had accumulated over the years.
Otha Anders did not start his collection of pennies until the latter half of the 1960s. The News Star claims that he began the habit after finding a penny on the ground and became hooked on it after that.
Because of this penny, he was given the opportunity to reflect on the importance of expressing thanks for the insignificant details that make up our lives.
This little event set the stage for Anders to spend the next forty years of his life searching for pennies, regardless of whether he did so by picking them up off the ground or by collecting them after a trip to the supermarket.
He told the reporters, “If I spotted a penny on the ground, in the corridor, or on the floor, or wherever,” and added, “I would immediately and continuously say a prayer of thankfulness and say, well, this is God’s way of showing me that I should always be grateful.”
After spending more than five hours at the bank counting and processing pennies using a machine, Anders had a total of $5,136.14 worth of pennies in his possession.
The procedure for counting the money took so much longer than expected since the cash bag needed to be replenished every 20 minutes when it reached $50.
The sum in its entirety was not inconsequential. He informed me that it will be applied to the most recent payment for his dental work.
