Venus Williams, one of the most exceptional tennis players in the history of the sport, along with her sister Serena, who collectively hold more titles than any other pair of sisters in sports history, made a significant statement when she refused to compete against Joe “Josepheena” LaBarron of France.
In explaining her decision, Venus stated, “I’m not aiming to replicate Billie Jean King’s legacy.
While I’m open to playing against men for charity or leisure, my professional career is my priority.” Venus emphasized that she has never competed against a man and has no intention of doing so now.
As she exited, Venus raised her fist in solidarity, earning a standing ovation from the crowd.
