Each year, parents dedicate significant sums to ensure their children enjoy a bountiful Christmas, often toiling overtime or holding down multiple jobs to satisfy their youngsters’ costly desires. While many kids express gratitude with a simple thank you and a hug, some go above and beyond to show their appreciation.
During last year’s festive season, Ryan Hicks, a renowned magician and mind reader known as Ryan Tricks, was driving through a neighborhood when he spotted a young boy standing on the roadside in the biting cold, surrounded by a collection of his used toys and a cardboard sign.
Intrigued, Ryan pulled up beside the 10-year-old to inquire about his sign, which read: “Toys For Sale For Mum’s Christmas Present.” The boy explained his noble motive: “My mum does a lot for me. She works weekends to buy me Christmas presents and earn extra money. So I decided to sell my unwanted toys to buy her a gift.”

Moved by the boy’s selfless gesture, Ryan saw an opportunity to assist. The boy revealed that while his mother was unaware of his plan, his grandmother inside the house was in on it. Despite spending an hour and a half outside, he hadn’t made any sales yet, despite offering items at generous prices.
Wanting to support the boy’s cause, Ryan inquired about the prices: a Hoverboard for 10 pounds (approximately $12), a King Kong action figure for 2-3 pounds (around $4), and a Mario Kart track for 10 pounds ($12). Impressed by the boy’s generosity, Ryan decided to purchase all the toys.
Expressing his admiration, Ryan gave the boy a high five and declared, “Your mum will be so proud of you.” He then offered to buy all the toys, much to the boy’s surprise. Negotiating a fair deal, Ryan initially offered 100 pounds for the lot, but the boy insisted on 50 pounds.

Concerned the boy might be selling himself short, Ryan eventually convinced him to accept the 100 pounds, emphasizing the significance of the Christmas spirit and the boy’s chilly dedication. After receiving the money, the boy requested a hug, which Ryan gladly gave, but there was more to come.
To ensure the boy didn’t go without, Ryan surprised him with an additional 100 pounds to spend on himself, opting not to take any of the toys. In doing so, he ensured the boy achieved his goal for his mother while also enjoying a reward for himself.
