In 2022, a remarkable centenarian, Walter Orthmann, hailing from the quaint town of Brusque in Santa Catarina, Brazil, achieved a notable feat: he clinched a Guinness World Record for the longest tenure at the same company. At the age of 100, Orthmann had devoted an astounding 84 years and nine days to his career, marking his inauguration at the company on January 17, 1938.

Orthmann’s illustrious journey began at Industrias Renaux SA, a textile firm in Santa Catarina, now known as ReneauxView, when he was a mere 15 years old. Balancing work with his academic pursuits, he commenced as a shipping assistant, gradually ascending the ranks to eventually assume roles in sales, culminating in his tenure as a sales manager.
Reflecting on his unprecedented career, Orthmann underscored the significance of having a sense of purpose, dedication, and a structured routine. His vocation not only provided him with a livelihood but also afforded him the opportunity to traverse the globe and forge enduring friendships with clients over the decades.

Orthmann’s philosophy on work and life revolves around embracing the present moment, eschewing excessive preoccupation with the past or future. For him, each day heralds a fresh opportunity to engage wholeheartedly in his duties and relish the present.
Notably, Orthmann’s record-breaking achievement in 2022 marked his second triumph, having previously surpassed the milestone in 2019. As he celebrated his 102nd birthday recently, Orthmann decided it was time to bid adieu to the workforce and savor a well-deserved retirement. Despite facing vision impairments, he concluded his remarkable 86-year tenure at the company with grace and dignity.
