Ellie Yeater, a 14-year-old from Williamstown, West Virginia, didn’t spend her summer playing computer games, hanging out with friends, or swimming in pools. Instead, she transformed a 1974 Wilderness camper into a glamorous retreat, which she fondly calls a “Glamper.”
With the term “glamper” coined from the combination of “glamorous” and “camping,” Ellie believes her camping experience will be more enjoyable and less strenuous with the new Wilderness glamper.

An aspiring high school student, Ellie saved up about $500 through chores, birthday money, and other activities, according to her mother Lori, to purchase and renovate the camper.
Initially listed on a neighborhood bulletin board for $200, Ellie saw the camper and seized the opportunity. She used the remaining funds to buy paint, flooring, linens, and other accessories for the glamper.

The camper was in poor condition due to its previous use for hunting and camping, requiring significant work to complete, as noted by her mother.
Inspired by her older brother Isaiah, who built a small cabin, Ellie wanted something “cuter” and closer to home for her friends, given her need for Wi-Fi and electricity.

Starting from scratch, Ellie dismantled and cleaned the camper entirely. With guidance from her grandfather Lawrence, she learned basic carpentry techniques and chose a vibrant aqua blue color scheme for the interior.
With meticulous care, Ellie painted the interior, transforming the dull wood theme into a brighter space. Her grandmother Mary assisted with upholstery, curtains, and sofa cushions, while Ellie installed new floor tiles.
Throughout the summer, Ellie gathered various decorations for her glamper, finding inspiration from Pinterest.

Adding finishing touches like a retro electric fan, an antique camera, and matching napkins made by her grandmother, Ellie’s glamper neared completion.
When asked about her plans after completing the project, Ellie mentioned enjoying peaceful activities like reading and playing the ukulele or possibly hosting a sleepover with friends.

Ellie’s determination in building the glamper is admirable, showcasing her ability to take on a significant project at a young age.
Her mother’s encouragement and belief in her abilities empowered Ellie to create something truly beautiful, demonstrating that hard work yields rewarding results.
