2 nuns just went viral after an unplanned beatboxing routine on national TV

Two Brazilian nuns went viral for their real-life Sister Act moment!

Sisters Marizele Cassiano and Marisa de Paula from the Copiosa Redenção congregation performed spontaneous beatboxing on Brazil’s Eternal Father TV station while discussing a vocational retreat.

According to The Associated Press, a now-viral video of the performance shows Sister Marisa rising up and dancing while Sister Marizele sings and beatboxes “Vocation,” a song about being called to a life of religious service. Deacon Giovani Bastos, the show’s host, also joined in, dancing in time with Sister Marisa.

“That moment was incredibly spontaneous, since Sister Marisa dances once you start a rhythm. And I’m accustomed to singing—beatboxing — so it was really simple, spontaneous, and shocking to find that it went viral outside of Brazil,” Sister Marizele told the Associated Press.

The sisters, who are both committed to assisting young people battling with drug addiction, told the publication that they saw music as a strong instrument for aiding those in need.

“Beatboxing, dancing, and the music itself are tools that God uses to reach the hearts of those whom we serve. And it works! It’s wonderful to see,” Sister Marizele, 44, told the Associated Press.

Sister Marizele, the nun who beatboxes in the video, has 17 years of religious experience, according to a statement on the congregation’s Instagram page. She considers music her calling and has created an album of devotional songs titled Celebrar a Redencao.

Meanwhile, Sister Marisa, 41, the nun shown dancing, has 14 years of religious experience. Dance has always been part of her work, particularly with children and young people, according to the article.

According to a press release on the order’s official website, the song “Vocation” was penned by Luana Pereira and recorded by nuns from the Copiosa Redenção congregation in 2009. That version, titled “Vocation to Love and Serve,” did not have beatboxing.

The version recently played on the Eternal Father TV show was an adaptation of Sister Marizele, and it was re-released on digital platforms on May 28th.
