A German family embarked on a memorable journey to spend quality time together by constructing their own house. The adventure commenced in 2011 when Franziska’s parents, Wolfgang and Heidi, stumbled upon an aged farmhouse. After three years of searching for the perfect property that included a garden for Heidi and space for two smaller houses for Franziska’s grandparents, they eventually acquired the farmhouse in East Germany.

While the exterior of the farmhouse appeared charming, the interior required substantial renovation. Opting to save costs, the family decided to take on the renovation themselves. They meticulously documented the entire process in a 13-minute video, showcasing their determination and teamwork.
While retaining the farmhouse’s original exterior, the family undertook a comprehensive overhaul of the interior. This involved reinforcing the structure with new beams, enhancing insulation, and removing unnecessary elements. Tackling challenges such as updating electrical wiring and plumbing proved to be particularly demanding.

The end result was nothing short of impressive. The house now boasts a luminous living room, a designated office space, and a cozy small library. The family used ample wood to create a warm ambiance, extending even to the bathroom.
Transforming the attic into a bedroom with thorough insulation and its own toilet added a practical touch to the living space. Throughout the process, Wolfgang, especially considering his age, received accolades for his hard work. People admired the family’s collaborative effort in turning their vision of a dream home into a reality.
