’80s supermodel Kim Alexis discusses her experiences with aging, the pressure of maintaining an image, and her life at 64—photos then and now

Kim Alexis, a supermodel at the height of the 1980s fashion boom, now navigates a totally different type of spotlight—one formed by age, experience, and endurance.

In the 1980s, Kim Alexis was a regular on magazine covers and catwalks. The New York-born model has appeared in Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, Vogue, and Cosmopolitan, as well as on the runways of high-fashion brands such as Gucci and Ralph Lauren.

Alexis, who stood alongside luminaries such as Christie Brinkley, Janice Dickinson, and Paulina Porizkova, personified the splendor and appeal of a time when youthful beauty was exalted.

Kim Alexis, 64, is taking time to ponder how society’s perception of beauty changes with age.

In a recent Instagram post, she mentioned that she is frequently asked how she deals with the pressure to stay youthful and pretty, which she regarded as a true and important question.

In a video posted to her page, Alexis addressed a common dilemma among women as they age: how to deal with cultural expectations of attractiveness.

“Age is unavoidable,” she captioned the video. She articulated the notion that people should abandon their desire to control what they cannot and instead find serenity in acceptance.

She went on to say that true beauty comes from within and is based on inner serenity, self-acceptance, and a strong feeling of self-worth.

Alexis, clad in a white and pink top, spoke about the pressures women experience to seem fresh.

She highlighted that, while aging cannot be reversed, people can manage how they care for themselves inside.

Alexis emphasized that true beauty goes beyond skin and makeup, focusing instead on traits like tranquility, purpose, and joy. What genuinely makes someone sparkle, she continued, is “how we choose to show up in the world.”

Her statement struck a chord with admirers, who flooded the comments with admiration and support. “You’re still stunning and captivating. ‘Age is just a number,'” one follower said. Another said, “Stunner… then and now!”

Others appreciated not only her appearance but also her thinking, saying, “Oh, I love that Kim. You look stunning in the turquoise ocean blue.cean blue. Perfect.”

In reliving her history and embracing her present, Alexis exemplifies timeless beauty.

Today, she leads a peaceful life away from the high-fashion runways of her childhood. She lives in Arizona and concentrates on her role as a mother of three while also keeping an active internet presence.

Though she is no longer in the spotlight, she continues to interact with followers by expressing her opinions on aging, health, and self-acceptance.

In a People Health interview last year, Alexis discussed finding comfort in herself despite overcoming health difficulties such as hypothyroidism, menopause, and weight gain.

These difficulties caused her to withdraw from the public glare for a time. Alexis noted that societal expectations frequently require women to preserve their youthful looks, implying that others want them to look exactly like they did when they were younger.

She said that women are not allowed to age, which is unfair.

Regardless of the challenges, Alexis has accepted aging on her own terms. She confessed that she has never had cosmetic procedures such as Botox and has no desire to do so.

Alexis stated that as she has gotten older, she has gained “confidence and wisdom.” She described her experience with hormone irregularities in her 50s, following a diagnosis of hypothyroidism in her 30s.

The disease resulted in weight gain and weariness, pushing her to adapt. “I had to learn to be tolerant of myself and learn what I could handle,” she told me. “I didn’t always like it, but I adapted.”

One of her most difficult periods occurred at the age of 54, when a crisis involving one of her boys rendered her bedridden. She then realized she was in perimenopause. Nonetheless, Alexis described herself as optimistic.

She stated that with the correct treatment, she was able to regain her footing and go forward. “I’m figuring things out along with every other woman,” she told me. “About how to age gracefully, naturally, and beautifully.”
