A moving Budweiser ad from Super Bowl XXXVI in 2002 conveys the feeling of 9/11. The ad features Budweiser’s famed Clydesdale horses in a poignant homage to the victims of the awful accident. The horses are depicted racing through snow-covered plains and cityscapes, outfitted and hauling a cart.
The horses then cross the Brooklyn Bridge into New York City, with the Statue of Liberty in the background. The advertisement concludes with the horses kneeling and the Statue of Liberty prominently displayed, generating a sense of reverence.

Despite only receiving one show, the commercial’s influence is still felt through yearly internet viewings on each anniversary. The creative team at Anheuser-Busch overcame obstacles to bring this homage to reality, filming in New York immediately after the attacks with the consent of Congress, the advertising community, and Mayor Rudy Guiliani.
The advertisement was rerun in 2011 to commemorate the tenth anniversary. The strong emotional resonance is reflected in the YouTube comments, with viewers stating how the commercial’s pictures and music provoke emotions and tears, encouraging memory for the lives lost and the fortitude shown throughout the disaster.
