96-year-old woman was handed three-day eviction notice from senior living home unless she paid $110,000

The senior care facility has issued a three-day eviction notice to a 96-year-old lady until she pays $110,000.

Jean Jacques, who has lived on the property for 22 years, moved into the Pacific Grove apartment in 2002 after signing a lifetime contract with California-Nevada Methodist Homes.

Jacques claims she made a $250,000 down payment when she moved into the home, and then paid $5,000 in rent until her money ran out.

However, following a change of ownership, Jacques has been required to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars.

A few years ago, Pacific Grove Senior purchased the residences, and Jacques anticipated that they would uphold the lifetime contracts they had with the previous owners.

However, Pacifica Senior Living has now slapped Jacques with an eviction notice, requesting that she pay $110,000 or vacate.

Lifetime contracts, like the one Jacques held, are believed to be only valid for California-Nevada Methodist Homes at this time.
“I was shocked,” she told KSBW.

“I moved to Forest Hill Manor to receive care for the rest of my life.”

“I am not going. They’ll have to bury me, since I have nowhere to go. “They have all my money.”

Meanwhile, Bob Sadler, president of the Pacific Grove Senior Living residents’ organization, stated, “She has invested all of her savings and money in this facility. If you saw her outside on the sidewalk, what would you do? I don’t think so; that seems absurd to me.

“I don’t care about the legal repercussions here.” This is morally unacceptable.”

Elizabeth Campos of Alliance for Aging, who is assisting Jacques in fighting the notice, has further complicated matters by stating that the Community Care Licensing Division did not permit the eviction.

“I know it’s frustrating. “You get angry knowing it’s an elderly person who has just been told they need to leave the home they’ve lived in for 20 years,” Campos added.

“Where is this person going to go?”

According to reports, the eviction letter failed to clarify to Jacques how she may appeal the notice.

Those fighting for Jacques are urging Pacific Grove Senior Living to uphold the original contract and allow the elderly lady to remain in the 22-year-old house she has lived in.
