There is a passageway that can be found a significant distance below the dunes of the Mexican desert. It plunges over two kilometers to its lowest point.

The individual worked on it in secret for 38 years, but it is now visible through search engines due to his efforts.

El Paso locals affectionately referred to William Schmidt as “the donkey” throughout his life there. He worked without taking any pauses, and he was accustomed to working without any form of respite.

He would descend below ground on a daily basis, and upon his return, he would haul upwards of one ton of rock to the surface.

The nature of this work caused a few people to raise their eyebrows.

Someone who was able to work with such an unwavering dedication was either the one who found the riches buried beneath the surface or a very deranged individual.

But Schmidt did not give the appearance that he was insane, and he conducted himself in a rational manner throughout the entire episode.

The people of El Paso have a negative opinion of Schmidt due to his reputation. They found him to be far too cryptic and cranky for their liking.

And in response to everybody who inquired about the tunnel, he would always say the same thing: “this is the road that is the shortest.”

Then after 38 years of tireless toil, the worker known only as “Donkey” suddenly handed in his resignation and vanished.

The researchers have gained control of the tunnel and are now responsible for its maintenance.

All of this took place as a direct consequence of the persistent rumors that were circulated about him; more particularly, it was said that Schmidt had discovered gold.

Pyrite, in very little quantities, has been found by the team thus far, but no gold has been found.

This is no longer a negligible amount, and the presence of the mineral almost always indicates the proximity of a gold mine.

The exploration of the tunnel is going to take up a considerable amount of time. 2087 meters below ground, there is a possibility of finding a treasure around each and every corner.
