Imagine graduating from college with Jerry Seinfeld as your commencement speaker. That’s a dream scenario, right? Well, for most graduates at the Duke ceremony, it was indeed fantastic. However, a few graduates, with pro-Hamas sentiments, decided to walk out. Yes, they chose to miss out on a speech from a renowned actor simply because he’s Jewish.

The majority of the students, however, cheered for Jerry Seinfeld. I mean, it’s Jerry Seinfeld! This guy is legendary. Walking out on him seems quite absurd. Even if you don’t find him funny, it’s still respectful to stay and listen. Graduation is a time to celebrate together, not to let personal opinions overshadow the occasion.
By walking out, those protesters not only disrupted their own graduation but also affected the experience for others. Graduation is a collective celebration, and everyone deserves to enjoy it. After years of hard work for your degree, it’s important to show respect for yourself, your college, and your fellow graduates. Let’s strive to do better.
