Selena Gomez has opened up about finding out she’s not able to carry her own children…

The Only Murders in the Building star is currently dating musician Benny Blanco, and she has spoken publicly about her desire to start a family in the future.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, the singer revealed that the pair is not under any pressure to marry and instead simply ‘always make sure’ to ‘guard’ what they ‘have’.

“There’s no rules,” she said. “I always want to be myself.

Gomez pondered being godmother to her cousin’s two children and said that she ‘sadly can’t carry [her] own children’.

She elaborated: “I haven’t ever said this, but […] I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy.”

Gomez has previously discussed her health journey, which started in 2014 with a lupus diagnosis and culminated in a kidney transplant in 2017.

In an episode of Apple TV+’s Dear…, Gomez described receiving a lupus diagnosis as ‘surreal’, citing her feeling ‘great’ at the time.

However, she quickly realized her body had been ‘fighting itself on the inside,’ with doctors stating she ‘could’ve had a stroke onstage’ and ‘could’ve died’—she was on her first solo tour at the time of her diagnosis.”

While not being able to ‘carry’ her children was something she had to grieve for a while—given that she always thought motherhood ‘would happen in the way it happens for everyone’ and that it is no longer ‘necessarily’ happening to her in the ‘way [she] envisioned it’—the singer added she’s ‘in a much better place with that’ now.”

Gomez resolved: “I consider it a blessing that there are lovely individuals ready to undertake surrogacy or adoption, both of which are excellent options for me.” It made me appreciate the many motherhood options. I am one of those folks. I’m curious to see what that trip will look like, although it will be a bit different. ” At the end of the day, I do not care. It will be mine. “It will be my baby.”
