Michael Bolton shares his first picture with his family after his cancer treatment

Michael Bolton is spending Christmas with his family following a difficult year.

The musician, 71, shared a Christmas photo with his loved ones on Facebook on Wednesday, Dec. 25, after learning that he had a brain tumor and needed surgery “just before the holidays” last year.

In the description, he expressed his warm wishes for a holiday season filled with peace, love, and joy. “May the New Year bring health, happiness, and countless moments to cherish.”

The former “How Am I Supposed to Live Without You” performer concluded: “Here’s to fresh starts and beautiful moments in 2024!”

The snapshot depicts Bolton seated on a couch with four loved ones, three of whom are wearing similar pajama shirts. The singer wore a Santa hat and a red and white Grinch shirt under a black jumper, as the entire family dressed for Christmas in the photo.

A bright blue festive blanket adorned him with gifts, snowmen, and Christmas trees.

Bolton and ex-wife Maureen McGuire share three daughters: Isa, Holly, and Taryn. He is also a grandpa, with six grandkids.

In a July 2023 exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the two-time Grammy winner said that his children and grandkids make fun of his distinctive long locks from the 1980s and 1990s.

“There’s a birthday card that says you have to remove my head out of this cake and then sing ‘Happy Birthday.'” One of my grandchildren saw it in the store and said, ‘How is G-pa getting so famous?'” he added. “It’s amusing and funny, but they’re not impressed by celebrity.”

Bolton announced in January of last year that he had received a brain tumor diagnosis and would be taking a break from performing.

The singer revealed that she had a brain tumor just before the holidays, necessitating rapid surgery. The procedure went well, thanks to my fantastic medical team,” the singer posted on Facebook. “I am now recuperating at home and surrounded by the tremendous love and support of my family.”

The famous artist also assured fans that he will be “devoting” the “next couple of months” to his rehabilitation and taking a “temporary break” from touring.

“It is always the most difficult thing for me to disappoint my fans or postpone a show, but have no doubt I am working hard to accelerate my recovery and return to performing soon,” stated Bolton, thanking his followers for their “love and support” throughout the years.

In August, supporters were alarmed when someone reported seeing multiple police cruisers near Bolton’s Connecticut house.

“An incident involving numerous police cars is taking place at Michael Bolton’s home in Westport, Connecticut. “I hope he’s okay,” stated the original X post.

Bolton responded immediately, saying, “Everything is OK! I am preparing for a small-scale landscaping task. Thank you for checking!”

The singer postponed a series of forthcoming gigs in October owing to health issues, explaining that he is “just not quite 100% yet” and is still on the “road to recovery.”

“It is challenging and oftentimes frustrating because I just want to be out there performing for you, but I need a little more time to build back my full strength and stamina,” he shared on Facebook. “My progress is good, and I have been able to get a little work done on a couple of exciting projects that you’ll be hearing about very soon.”

His website currently lists his appearance at the O2 in London in July 2025.
