A single, ambitious lady whose life revolves around work attempts to get a single father with a wailing infant tossed out of a cafe. Surprisingly, she sees him again a year later, but this time the tables are flipped.
It was a bustling Monday evening when Libby entered the café, ordered a standard coffee, and took a seat overlooking New York City’s busy streets.
She had had an awful day. With the long meetings and projects with tight deadlines, she hoped to find some time to unwind before heading home to her yoga meditation and more work before bed.
“Thank you,” she replied quietly as a waiter delivered her meal, and she checked her day planner on her iPad. The next day was filled with more meetings and tasks to attend. Nothing out of the usual.
Libby set down her iPad, sipped some hot coffee, and looked about. She took a horrible look at the baby on the table next to her, who had apple puree on his mouth.
Libby imagined the nice-looking man, who was conversing on his phone as his infant smiled at a stranger, was a single dad. Why else would he be dressed formally in a café at 7 p.m., feeding a child with his office bag beside him?
“Disgusting!” Libby muttered under her breath before averting her gaze.
Libby despised babies. She loathed their crankiness and demand for attention. However, it appeared that the infant she described as filthy adored her.
Everyone has a story to share. You cannot judge someone unless you know their story.
As Libby turned away, the baby started crying, and his tears streamed down his face like a river.

“What a mess!” she said furiously.
Libby turned to look at the table a few seconds later and noticed that the baby’s father was still on the phone, which annoyed her. She’d had a tough day at work, and the last thing she wanted was to hear the baby cry.
“Excuse me, sir!” She yelled out to the man from her table. “Ask your infant to be quiet! He’s weeping as if he won’t live another day!”
The father turned back, apologized, and then resumed the conversation, stroking his infant. Nothing has changed. Libby became enraged when the baby continued to wail, and she phoned the waitress.
“I’m a regular here, and this is the absolute minimum you could do for me.” Please transfer them to a different table so I won’t be able to hear that stubborn baby’s screams! Or just kick them out! Do everything to get them out of my sight!”
“Ma’am,” the waitress apologized. The only seats left are on the terrace, which may be too cold for the baby. All the tables inside are full. “I’ll speak with them.”
The waitress approached the man’s table and spoke to him, and Libby watched the man hang up the phone.

“Well, if she has a problem, she should be the one to move,” she overheard the man remark. “It’s not even my fault, but I apologize for the inconvenience.”
Libby couldn’t control her rage when she overheard that. She stepped over to the man’s table and urged him to leave. That’s when the screaming toddler splashed apple puree over Libby’s clothes, irritating her even more.
“Jason, boy!” the guy said. “That’s not correct. “Calm down!”
“Hey, look, I’m sorry about that,” the man said to Libby. “I can make it up to you, and—”
“That’s ridiculous!” cried Libby. “Of both you and your child! “I am done with this place,” she said as she rushed out of the café, gazing furiously at the guy and the waiter.
Libby never visited the café again, and she hoped to never run into that man and his child again. She despised him as much as she despised that baby.

After a year, Libby met a lovely man at work. Trevor was only a contract employee, but he was charming, kind, and confident—everything Libby had ever desired in a guy. He fell for her initially, but she fell harder, and she soon discovered she was pregnant with his kid.
When her baby bulge became noticeable, Libby informed her parents about her pregnancy, but the elder couple was not pleased.
“We’d rather have you unmarried for the rest of your life,” her father grumbled. “I don’t want that man to be involved with you or our family, Lib.”
“Your father is right, hun,” her mother remarked. “He does not deserve you.” He does not belong to our class, and the infant is not his. You can decide to retain it. “We’ll see what we can do to help you raise your child.”
Libby was stunned. She anticipated her parents to be happy, but the reverse happened. Because Libby was persistent on marrying Trevor, both of them were booted out of the company—they worked for her father’s company—and Libby’s parents excluded her from the will.

A few months later, Libby moved into Trevor’s studio apartment since she could no longer afford her rent. Trevor worked for a tiny private corporation at the time and supported her and their child.
Months later, when God’s tiny gift entered Libby and Trevor’s lives, they determined to show her all their love, despite their problems. Trevor started working two jobs, and Libby also started seeking work.
One day, she received a call for an interview at an editing company, and she had to bring baby Eve along.
Libby has loved writing since she was a child. So she was quite enthusiastic about the interview. However, as she approached the interview room, the other applicants condemned her since she was the only one with a baby.
“I’m afraid you won’t be able to carry her inside,” the lady outside the interview room informed her as her name was called.
“I’m sorry,” Libby said. “If I leave her alone, she will become a bother to others. “Please understand.”

The woman moaned and ultimately gave up.
Libby stepped inside the room, completely oblivious of what awaited her. The interviewer’s expression shocked her. He was the same man she’d treated rudely months before.
“Do I know you?” He raised an eyebrow as he invited Libby to have a seat. “You seem familiar.”
“Oh well,” Libby said hesitantly. “We met at the café, and your baby was crying…”
“Ah!” he said, smiling. “So, we know each other. Please take your seat. Additionally, I hope you understand that we do not tolerate babies at work.”
Before Libby could say anything, Eve began to cry. She just wouldn’t quit.
Libby felt humiliated. “Oh no, I’m so sorry. I just can’t leave Eve at home alone.

“May I?” he inquired. “What?” she asked, puzzled.
“Can I hold her for a moment? I believe I’ll be able to silence her.”
Libby agreed because she had no other choice. She gave Eve to the man, and the baby girl stopped sobbing as soon as he started playing with her.
“She seems to like you,” Libby explained. “That’s not like her!”
“I love babies,” the man remarked. “I am Jonathan, by the way. Aside from being the company’s director, I am also a single father to my little son. He is presently with my sister.” I don’t like leaving kids with strangers.”
Libby could not hold back her tears. “I’m not sure how else to say it, but I can’t leave Eve alone. I’m not in the best financial health, and because I can’t bring her to work, I don’t believe I’ll be a good fit for this position. Sorry.”

“No, it’s OK. I would like to interview you. We do not want to lose a valuable prospect. Please…”
Jonathan interviewed Libby and hired her. He also permitted Libby to bring Eve to work as long as it did not interfere with her duties.
“I’m a father, too, and I understand,” he joked. “Not to mention, Mrs. Walsh, we are all human at the end of the day. I suppose having a tiny employee with us would be fantastic!”
Libby was quite thankful to Jonathan. She not only got a job that day, but she also realized life was more than simply work.
Jonathan, a single parent, handled most of the company’s tasks, and she had seen what a fantastic father he was. While raising a child on his own, he also worked hard for his firm and others. He instilled in Libby the fundamental value of humanity.
